I love this essay. I miss swimming.

"It’s always the margins of the swimming experience that come to mind. I’m like one of those people in an art gallery, going on about the frames instead of the pictures. "

Just catching up with Bernard Hickey's Dec 6 episode on the iwi building papa kāinga housing on a Motueka marae;

(The Spinoff's podcast pages seem custom designed to make it impossible to link to specific episodes 🤷♂️)
This episode includes multiple examples of what iwi can do for their people, when they get their land back, and the funding they need to make use of it.

@jeremy_pm oh, someone at #TheSpinoff had real fun collecting exchanges for the article.
I'm impressed to see Marilyn Waring still up and at them. And just the list of Very Senior and Serious People against the bill having to deal politely with very much not those sort of people who are for it.
But on the other hand, this or Nazis marching in Adelaide to remind everyone how important #AustraliaDay is?

Or as a satire site put it "leader of the opposition yet to condemn far right antisemitism despite being against all other forms".... https://www.betootaadvocate.com/breaking-news/dutton-yet-to-condemn-neo-nazis-waving-that-flag-he-loves-so-much-on-that-date-he-wants-them-to-celebrate-so-badly/
Aue! It begins:
> It’s the bill that inflamed a nation. It triggered the largest protest in New Zealand history. It smashed the record for public submissions and crashed parliament’s website. And now, the most anticipated select committee hearing parliament has ever seen.
And as Idiot/Savant points out, the presenters were each chosen by a party on the committee to speak. Who chose each one and why?
BTW here's the Spinoff shilling Clearhead for use in mental health services back in 2019;
Maybe this is advertising? But if so it's unclear.

Kiwi woman with ties to Syria writes about the fall of Assad and her hopes for what comes next.
TheSpinoff telling it like it is:
> In that same RNZ interview with Craig McCulloch, he{Chris Luxon} took credit for inflation dropping back to 2.2% from a high of 5.6% (though would not take credit for the rise in unemployment over the same period).
Arguably given my financial situation I shouldn't be maintaining any subscriptions, but I have been finding an amount each month for a Spinoff subscription and will continue to do so. I'm a bit surprised that the chart in the article shows that this makes me about 1 of only 10,000.
I'm a strong believer in paying for the things you can so that other people can also benefit from them. And I believe we all benefit from supporting in depth journalism.
