I just watched #TheWomanKing - an absolute masterpiece. I have not seen a movie that impressed me so much in a very long time. The cast is fantastic, the cinematography and fight choreography amazing, and the story had me hooked from start to finish. 5/5 stars, go watch this if you have the chance.

Maybe I've just been making good choices, but after watching #Barbie yesterday I thought back over the movies I've seen in the cinema since the pandemic: #WakandaForever, #TheWomanKing and #EverythingEverywhereAllAtOnce (all of which were excellent) and it really does feel like something's changing and Hollywood executives have finally realised women watch films and want to see fully developed female characters and are finally putting money behind them

I really enjoyed #TheWomanKing. #violadavis is so good in it. The movie brought to mind a book I read several years ago by #zoranealehurston called #Barracoon. She interviewed a former slave, Kossula who related his story of being captured by the Dahomey warriors, many of whom were women in 1860. I highly recommend the book although the Dahomey don’t come off as well as in the movie.
