#TheBrutalist - I liked it overall, although it could have used more subtlety and more moral ambiguity. But that's just me. Highlight was Adrien Brody's acting.

Have issues with the movie #TheBrutalist. #Doylestown is nice, close to Philadelphia but not well represented in the movie. But if Doylestown was not my county seat I would of not watched this movie.

Prefiero las certezas. Jamás desmentiré las bonbades de la incertidumbre. Qué pasará a formar parte de nuestra memoria -y cuánto permanecerá- es una incógnita mayor. De ella derivan afluentes como qué obras culturales serán canon.
Ya solo dedicado al trabajo tras el objetivo, Brady Corbet se está mostrando un cineasta ambicioso en lo artístico, lo que le hace impredecible.
¿Algún oráculo habría interceptado la premonición de que tras la interesante Vox Lux viraría hacia el scorsesismo de The Brutalist? Debe de haberle costado reunir la financiación. Y escribir el largo, aunque trabaje desde hace la tira con su pareja, la cineasta Mona Fastvold, esta película tiene dimensiones desmedidas. Sus puyas en las galas hacia quienes no creyeron en su idea lo dejan claro.
Si László Toth o The Brutalist permanecerán en el inconsciente colectivo lo desconozco. Lo tiene complicado.
Esta historia son muchas historias que se subrayan -con la música, el tipo de plano, una frase- en vano: la mayoría se olvidan o se asumen sin sentirlas, por lánguidas. El filme es largo pero el brutalismo del guion lo es más todavía. Aquí no se prioriza y mucho menos se focalizan las tramas. Pasa todo y a lo loco.
La migración es clave. Toth huye de la miseria que deja la guerra. Busca esplendor y obtiene desarraigo. ¿Qué pasaría con los suyos? Trabajo no cualificado, putas, drogas. Entonces llega el primo y llega la religión, otro eje de la cinta junto con los emigrantes complacientes y los nativos malos, sin término medio, de lleno al cliché: arte-mecenas, ricos-obreros, dualidades clásicas planteadas sin novedad. Tramas fofas.
Gracias a una voraz robasecuencias Felicity Jones y a un estupendo Guy Pearce siendo un rico veleta (y oprimido...), las dispares tramas se agitan como un monumental cóctel que solo engaña al hambre cuando nos prometieron un menú completo.

Watched #TheBrutalist and I was so bored.
The cinematography was beautiful but the rest of it is very overrated. And parts of it are very pretentious.
So many Oscar winners these days just really don’t deserve the adulation and praise.
