I don't fully know what the economics of these were, and we shouldn't use the "e" word near Keith's account anyway; but the originals/what was heard on the telly were either expensive or unavailable a lot of the time. Library music was generally not available to οι πολλοι. So there was a number of people making cheap re-arrangements or their own performances.

I believe that I have Ski Sunday on tape and on CD. There are certainly a fair few theme music collections that have it, and YouTube has a handful of those, where such-and-such "orchestra" does a whole bunch of popular theme tunes.
If you want to shake the #earworm by just going down the total exposure path, then one fun thing about YouTube is that it also has the #KPM library original from 1976 by #KeithMansfield .
It's twice as long, doesn't have the station ident, and is in stereo, because the 1970s were in stereo.
And one can listen to the guitar solo bridge that one never knew the #Grandstand theme had.
