#TinyPC

I know I'm dreaming, but my dramas with my media pc have led to me thinking about building another machine with a more robust setup.

Does anyone know of a machine that is:
a. Small (like, mini-itx small)
b. Fanless, or super quiet
c. has a 3.5" drive bay

I'll probably run Linux, because apparently I like pain :(

PC upgrade alert 🚨

Upgraded to an RX 9070 and the Fractal Terra (since the 9070 couldn’t fit in my Ghost S1). Been looking for an excuse to buy this case ever since it launched, and I’m so glad that I finally had a reason!

Side profile of my mini ITX PC with the side panel off. The power supply is mounted on the left, and the giant, silver CPU cooler is covering the motherboard on the right. The power supply cables are routed in the minimal empty space.Side profile of the other side of my PC with the side panel off. The triple fan graphics card is slotted in vertically, either a decent making of space leftover underneath and to the right of it. There is an SSD moistness underneath it.An angled photo of my PC with all of the side panels on. It is a metallic, jade green with slits along the side of ventilation. The front is solid jade, with a walnut wood panel on the bottom with the power button and front panel IO.

OK and this $19 eBay score is a Digital Sign Display. Well, actually it's just a tiny AMD PC, complete with 128GB SSD and WiFi. With a quad core Jaguar+ based APU (similar to base PS4). I'm turning this into a HTPC for the bedroom using Tiny10 by NTDEV.

The image shows the internal components of a small, open computer case. Here's a breakdown of what's visible:

* **Motherboard:** A green printed circuit board (PCB) dominates the center, which is the motherboard. Various electronic components, chips, and connectors are soldered onto it. You can see labels like "Bt-P13" and "HDMI" printed on it.
* **RAM:** To the left of the motherboard, a stick of green RAM (Random Access Memory) is inserted into a slot. It has a white label with barcodes and technical specifications.
* **Wireless Card:** To the right of the RAM, a smaller green PCB with a white label appears to be a wireless network card. Two antenna cables are connected to it.
* **Cooling Fans:** On both the left and right sides of the case, black cooling fans are mounted. They have red 3M VHB™ tape securing them.
* **Connectors:** Various connectors are visible on the motherboard, including what appears to be an HDMI port, USB ports, and power connectors.
* **Cables:** Several colored wires and cables are routed within the case, connecting different components. Some are bundled with white zip ties.
* **Case:** The components are housed in a black metal case that is currently open, revealing the internal hardware.
* **Background:** The computer case is sitting on a surface that appears to be a green mat or desk pad.

Overall, the image provides a detailed view of the internal layout and components of a compact computer system.

My old Tiny PC is getting more and more buggy, among other things the USB ports no longer work properly, whether the ones directly on the back of the mainboard or the two on the front of the case, which are connected to the MB with a cable... plus the already old Ryzen 5 3400G processor...

The situation really calls for something “new”, and in this case I would like to fall back on a refurbished device. It doesn't always have to be new, and many business devices are still more than usable. Especially with Linux. Besides, I already have a new device with the Beelink SER7.

After a bit of research, I'm currently considering an HP ProDesk 600 G6 SFF. I like the modular chassis concept, everything is easily accessible and well thought out. No comparison with cheap customer devices.

To illustrate this, I'll link an HP support video showing how well swapping components works. Now I just have to find a good offer...

OMG, I've just realised that my new home Proxmox server, a very cheap (and tiny - that's an 80mm fan) but beautifully built computer (CWWK aka Topton), might be a tool of the evil Chinese state, and might explode or assassinate the cat at any moment. OK, I'm being ridiculous… I don't even own a cat.

It's an impressive bit of kit though. The fan is optional and not really necessary. I've taken the "better safe than sorry" approach and attached a Noctua PWM fan. It only kicks in when it has to, and is inaudible when it does. It has an Intel N100 processor and I've fitted 16GB of RAM and a 2TB NVMe stick.

I've already migrated this #GoToSocial server to it from my previous Celeron N3150 server (soon to be eBayed), and it's noticeably quicker.

Btw, for anyone who's interested, I'm now #selfhosting my #retro homepage and #gopherhole on a #Lenovo #ThinkCentre #TinyPC, running #Fedora #Server Edition.

This is also providing a DNS sinkhole via a containerized instance of #AdGuardHome.

The server will eventually provide network access to my #IC7100, as well, but for the time being only the cat control are functioning; the audio still needs to be worked out.

Ugh.

As soon as I got the #LePotato up and running again, it's already back offline. It's refusing to see any external drives, my wifi adapter, and the Ethernet connection. Basically, everything that would be needed to use it as a simple server is failing.

I'm sure that with enough troubleshooting I could get this back online (again)... But I think I've had enough of this #SBC and will be replacing it with a #Lenovo #TinyPC
