Something that cheered me up today. We're not unique in the heterogeneity especially in the postcol sense but our sociopolitics of it all* meant that we especially don't quite have a prevailing monocultural beauty standard, which the recent comingling of our respective vernacular/racial cultural production sites/centres seriously and systematically are demonstrating.

*We have competing majoritarian dynamics and existing cultural niches, so the totalizing mission that is the typical post-independence "national identity project" hadn't achieved its intended outcomes - the elite anglophiles were countered by the nationalists; the colonial economy has merely changed colours; at least two groups lean on diaspora cultural habitudes; one native group is actually made of many ethnicities etc etc
