I told the staff at Arden station that we might be the only passengers so far who'd used the station for something other than novelty value. ;)

There's not much around that area yet, will presumably be populated by apartments in due course. Lovely station though.

We came up with a practical use case for the new Arden station today - we caught the train from the city there, so we could go for a swim at the North Melbourne Pool. Entirely step-free, whereas previously we've had to catch the high-floor 57 tram then walk down a slope to the pool. Useful.

Three old soldiers UP 3619, 3285 and 3185 sat at La Grande, OR, on Monday, June 11, 2007. They were still earning a living after about 35 years of service, at that time, for their owner.
UP 3619 was an EMD SD40-2. Reportedly: UP 3619 was built in 1979 builders number 786263-11. Other reporting marks and numbers reportedly associated with this locomotive include: UP 3619, UP 1812, UPY 3011, UPY 304.

Today's historic photo of the day: Two 49 class diesel locos and the Lachlan Valley Railway "Gwabegar Weekender" tour #train whilst returning from Dubbo to Sydney via Narromine and Peak Hill, sit at the station at Parkes, NSW, on the Australia Day long weekend holiday, Monday, January 31 1983

Parkes is 445km west of Sydney on the line to Broken Hill, Adelaide, Perth and Darwin. It's also at the intersection of lines south to Melbourne and Sydney via Cootamundra, and north to Dubbo via Peak Hill

Taken from a footbridge over a railway station looking down we see a station platform and building at left with a passenger train sitting at the platform - predominantly in Indian red livery although one carriage is in the then-new Candy livery. Three more tracks to the right of the train form part of the station yard. In the distance, some rolling stock, including a candy liveried 73 class shunting loco sits in the yard.
