“Night mirror”

The water mirror is one of the attractions of the beautiful city of Bordeaux. It is located on the quays of the Garonne, opposite the Place de la Bourse.

The landscaper Michel Corajoud would have had the idea in reference to the Saint Mark's square of Venice during its regular floods.

This is a colour photo in landscape format of a single Northern Gannet (Morus Bassanus) flying over the open ocean (2017).

The background of the image is filled with medium to dark blue, disturbed with small waves, ocean water, all blurred out of focus. In the centre of the photo is our Northern Gannet, flying towards, at the same level and to the left of the camera, with front and left side in view. The bird's wings are outstretched and head looking stright ahead as the Gannet banks gently to the right. The beak is long, pointed and yellow. There is a black stripe that runs from the eye, over the top of the beak and to the other eye. Most of the bird is white, though the head and neck have a slight yellow/orange tint. The outboard section of the wings is a medium brown colour, both above and below. The feet are swept backwards towards the dark tail and droplets of water can be seen behind and below suggesting the bird has receiently been in the water.

The location is 71º North, at the top of the Norwegian Sea, the bottom of the Barents Sea and perhaps a tiny bit of the Arctic Ocean.
