Finally watched the Amazon movie Troop Zero, which had been on my watchlist for quite a while. I enjoyed it, and it actually exceeded my expectations.

On the surface, it's a story about an outcast girl in the rural US south who has dreams of space, set in the late 1970s. She learns of a competition to win a place on the field recordings NASA are making for The Golden Record that will be sent into space on the Voyager, and decides she has to find a way to be on the recording.

The story works well enough simply on that level, but there is another level to the story about overcoming hardships and self acceptance, and it does a good job on that front as well.

The music of David Bowie is also highlighted in the soundtrack, so that was an unexpected bonus!
