Your bi-yearly tip on #anthurium care. If you want to extend the red colour - snip off the yellow spadix, once the flower(looks like a leaf) turns fully red. That extends the red for much longer.
This particular plant(we have several of these) was gifted to my Mom from a former Filipino coworker. Mom loves this particular anthurium because it's the biggest & healthiest out of all the ones we have. It's a good indoor air filtration plant.
*Keep pets away from it.*

3rd time this #pink #orchid has bloomed, this year. I usually only get 2 blooms from it, annually. Not sure why it's going on third bloom but I'm definitely not complaining about it.
Lovely to have some pretty flowers to admire, as we near December.

Don't the bent blossoms of the #BirdOfParadise plant look like ruffled cranes?

Strelitzia plant with broad, pointed green leaves and several flowers. At the end of each curved stem is a laterally inclined inflorescence, which is enveloped by a beak-shaped bract, the spathe. The orange and blue petals are wilted and brown. They hang from the flower like shaggy hair or feathers. This makes the flower resemble a somewhat windswept and ruffled crane. A grey stone structure is visible in the background.

My Nepenthes veitchii (Bario "Striped" x "Green Peristome") is showing off its elegant elongated pitchers with subtle coloration. This cross combines the striped characteristics from the Bario locality with the distinctive green peristome, resulting in these beautifully understated pitchers. The narrow, tubular shape is typical for this species and makes them stand out among other Nepenthes in the collection.

Pigeon peas are the most prolific legume we grow and they require no water or fertilizationโ€”even in our sandy soils. Itโ€™s one of the few things we grow that provides actual sustenance for us. We get so many peas that we can dry them, jar them and eat them for months. In Spanish speaking countries some call them grandules. These are also the peas that go in Jamaican rice & peas. #PerennialGardening #Zone10 #Florida #TropicalPlants #MiracleFoods @gardening

Double infusion today. @deadnettlez inspired me to start a roselle oil infusion. I didnโ€™t even realize this was a thing. The plantโ€™s antioxidant properties make it great for hair and skin, apparently. I mean, I think I care more about the fact that it makes the oil #pink than anything else. Iโ€™m using coconut oil as my carrier. On the right, another batch of sun tea. #roselle #zone10 #TropicalPlants #HerbalRemedies #plants

Two glass jars sitting on a window sill. The smaller one on the left is filled with coconut oil that has a pink tint to it due to the ground roselle calyx powder mixed in, currently sitting at the bottom. The gar has a green lid (leftover mayonnaise jar). The larger jar on the left is filled with water that has become a deep red color, with roselle calyxes floating on the top.

A plant with pink flowers in a terracotta pot is close by. Another house, white with a green awning, can be seen through the window in the background.

These pots are too heavy to bring inside every night, but I'm not ready to harvest yet. Especially considering they did so poorly with last year's drought that I overwintered them (they barely stayed out of dormancy considering how dry it is indoors in winter) - and again they did poorly this midsummer with the extreme dry heat.

So every night I bring them in (ginger has to weigh 100#), every morning when it warms I put them back out.

#Gardening #IndoorGardening #TropicalPlants #FallIsComing

A photo of a ginger plant in an 8 gallon terracotta pot, a turmeric plant in an 8 gallon plastic pot, and another turmeric plant in a 4 gallon plastic pot, all on a weathered wooden deck.

After two winters of heating my backyard greenhouse (tropical plants) with fan blown electric resistance heating (read: electric space heater), I'm looking for a more efficient method.

I see others using methane or propane, but, yuck and I don't want to cause an explosion.

I haven't seen examples of people doing it, but would it be possible to wire up a 120v mini split?
