🧡 Today we honour 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐲

We recognize and celebrate the history, heritage, and diverse cultures of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples across Canada.

Let’s continue to listen, learn, and support Indigenous communities—not just today, but every day.

In honour of National Indigenous Peoples Day today here in 🇨🇦, let us remember Demasduit, a Beothuk woman from the early 19th century -- one of the last of her people on Newfoundland

“What’s the opposite of a dictatorial, authoritarian presidential system? It’s a decentralized system where Indigenous people have control over their own lands, waters and keep large corporations from digging everything up,” he said.

“That would be the most anti-American thing a Canadian could do,” he said. “If the narrative could change Indigenous self-determination could be a central part of Canadian identity.”

Rose Lemay has given Canadian indigenous allies a place to start when we ask the question "What can I do?". After working with allies in both the civil service and the private sector, she has a unique, insightful perspective on the issues and ways forward.

Garry Gottfriedsen and Victoria Handford are Canadian heroes in the search for genuine truth and reconciliation. Their book Dangling in the Glimmer of Hope is already a Canadian classic. Buy the book, read it, and pass it on. Even better, buy more than one and share widely.

Three writers sit in comfy chairs on a low platform. One wears beaded moccasins with chinos and a black t-shirt, one wears brown dress shoes with black jeans and a tweed jacket, one wears soft black shoes with a black outfit topped by a jacket that reminds me of nothing but licorice allsorts.

"In many ways, what’s happening in North Island-Powell River is a stand-in for what’s on the line as voters head to the polls across rural and northern B.C."

"Some settlers even seem to pin the blame for resource sector slowdowns in part on the advancements of the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and the recuperation of lands at mill sites."

"But now, Aaron Gunn is making a mockery of that truth in a cynical attempt to buy votes from his far-right base," says the petition. "We call on Pierre Poilievre to immediately remove Aaron Gunn as the Conservative Candidate for North Island—Powell River."

May his memory be a blessing to his faith community and to the world, and may his moral courage, his defence of the vulnerable, and his efforts to heal the wounds of history serve as an example, not just for his successors, but for us all. #Alberta #TruthandReconciliation #PopeFrancis #Edmonton

I had the remarkable privilege of attending Pope Francis’s pilgrimage to Lac Ste Anne, west of Edmonton, where he prayed for forgiveness for the Catholic Church’s role in colonialism and cultural genocide against Canada’s Indigenous peoples. It was an extraordinary powerful moment of reckoning and reconciliation - and an act of courage and grace. I am not Roman Catholic. But I too mourn today a champion of justice, who spoke truth to the very end. #PopeFrancis #TruthandReconciliation #Alberta

shoes, sits in a wheel chair, as he is pushed down a fresh paved path towards the shore of Lac Ste Anne, west of Edmonton. He is surrounded by First Nations community leaders, some in full feather headdresses. To his left we see Métis leader Audrey Poitras, wearing moccasins, a orange scarf symbolizing child victims of residential school, and a blue purse with the white Métis infinity symbol.

"Poilievre’s decision to support a candidate engaging in residential school denialism is disappointing but not surprising. There is a clear pattern of denialism and anti-Indigenous racism within the Conservative Party of Canada."
