I just realized that all standard Settings windows in #macOS don't have any bottom control buttons like Apply, etc. You always need to close Settings with a tiny red dot.

I have been using macOS for 18 years and never thought about it...

I don't know how many times I've reimplemented a layer tree component in different UI systems. I'm happy that my newest thing is working well enough to do this now though.

Zig is still treating me well, although it's still not advanced from an application complexity pov. I haven't implemented the UI preview in this iteration because so far Zig recompiles the app so fast that building it on save is quick. I'll probably invest the time into making it restart smoother instead.

This icon on Letterboxd bugs me. My slow little brain still needs decrypt its meaning each time before I tap it.

Why do company's feel the need to be clever by differentiating with basic things like universal icons?

Long-overdue #question and request for #recommendations: What to use besides #GIMP? I don't hate it (I've become used to it) but I object to the name and it has annoyances galore. If I can use something better I will. I'd very much like it to be #FOSS.

My use case: mostly photo editing (though a lot of that has been replaced with Darktable), sometimes making memes or flyers, etc. Occasionally I draw or make something from scratch.

What else is there that does these things, and (very important) is better at them, hopefully with a more intuitive, useful interface?

GNOME has had that system for more than two decades or so IIRC {if I recall correctly} they're 27 ATM.
I had seen it in the first couple of years of GNOME spawn and development, when the programmers chose the route of less configuration & more dictation
