Pots and Pans Rock on Alderman's Hill above Uppermill. A local legend says that the boulders and rocks littering the hills above Uppermill and Greenfield are the remnants of a mighty battle between two Saddleworth giants, Alphin and Alder.

Today's #DukinfieldCC ride was a hilly one, @ 1200m in 77km. We headed north out from Dukinfield through #Heyrod, #Mossley, #Greenfield and #Uppermill before starting the long climb from #Delph up #MarsdenMoor. At the top of the moor we headed west down the fast, but windy, descent over the #M62 motorway before turning left again taking us to #ScammondenDam. From there we headed across country taking in a few 10% plus-ers before hitting the main road that climbed to the top of #CraggVale. Another windy but speedy drop took us the the cafe in #Littleborough for coffee and refuel before the ride home through #Newhey, #Shaw, #Lees and #Dukinfield. A heady couple of hours on Osgar earlier. Lots of climbing but we both enjoy it. Some friends (not food) and #HartsheadPike from the top of Mossley Road, looking down on #Greenfield and #Uppermill from Ladcastle Road, the top of Grains Road and looking down on Town from Top O' Th' Meadows. Lovely stuff. And all this was after I'd been chatting with the #vegan protesters outside Pilgrims in A-U-L. Power to the plant eaters!

I did my longest ride since the end of October earlier. 40km round trip. The halfway point was the top of what we call "The Horse and Jockey" climb, which is the road that goes from #Uppermill to the junction with the A62, #Oldham #Huddersfield road. That's where this image was taken. I put the 40mm #Continental tyres back on my #OrroTerraCHydro the other week and they still sing! It was great to get out with two riding buddies, Lauren and Dougie, too. 2 hours of fun and not too many cars about. Can't explain how great running on the trails makes me feel. So often I get caught up chasing PB's in races, but plodding up a big hill and soaking in amazing views just feels amazing. Having to make a rather rapid detour over a stone wall to avoid cattle charging at me was the only minor downside today! 😂
