I've been playing a lot of Hitman World of Assassination lately after Freelancer mode finally clicked with me.
The music in the new games is good, but won't ever be as iconic as the tracks in Blood Money

For today's #vgmwednesday I present a track from Sonic 06. Yes, I know this game is infamous for being rushed, broken, and somewhat destroying the reputation of the Sonic series. However, despite everything, it has one of my favorite soundtracks in the entire franchise. Considering how this is a Sonic game, it having an awesome OST is a given, but I really do mean it when I say it's amazing.
One track I really like is 'The Water's Edge', which plays during the beginning half of the game's first level, Wave Ocean. It's fitting for Wave Ocean's beach-inspired aesthetic, and the music itself excites me every time I hear Sonic's "I gotta hurry and save Elise". When not playing the game, I find the theme oddly relaxing, though that's likely due to nostalgia.
And to be totally honest, music like this is why I can't really bring myself to hate 06, regardless of its quality. The game's OST is just that great.
Gotta love when that harp kicks in #VGMwednesday https://youtu.be/nNFJsxfjG8Q
Since Pokémon's anniversary is coming this week, I'm going to share Pokémon music for VGM Wednesday.
Here's a remix of music from Pokémon Red by Rux Ton entitled, "Club Lavender Town." https://ocremix.org/remix/OCR04423

Bonus post today. Something reminded me of #NightsOverNeptune and he's posted a new chiptune this month to Soundcloud, but it's also on Bandcamp. He tags his work as synth rock, but his synthesizer of choice has been a SID chip. Here's "Iron Knuckles."

Yo #VGMWednesday you've been hiding excellent Pokemon music from me. Wait no you weren't I just didn't do anything seriously Pokemon related since Generation 3.
It's not like the music ever stopped churning out whoppers, this is GameFreak after all doing what it knows.
Have a remix of Route 225. I'm really into it.

Today's song is "Mansion Basement" from #ResidentEvil Direcor's Cut: DualShock version, but it can't be presented on its own. Here's Kurt Indovina's "Remember When" about it for GameSpot in 2020.
F-Zero GX had like a whole album hidden in the racer info section and some of it was great

For #vgmwednesday, here’s the final level theme from Super Mario Land 2, in honour of it being added to #NintendoMusic:

Such a neat theme for an awesome finale!
Due to numerous factors, I had dropped the ball on #VGMWednesday last week.
My attention has been divided all over the place admittedly.
So, whilst I was casually listening to stuff at work, something came up, and it was like a gorgeous gut punch. A, charming, full bodied impact into my soul.
Is everything I said above a lie, and just an opportunity to reference something lyrics? Yes. But, it is true that 『I am Impact』from Mystical Ninja starring Goemon for the N64 just snuck into my recommendations and I was smacked with some funky nostalgia.

When this song plays in-game, you are transported into a giant mecha to engage in mecha on mecha boss fights. It is awesome and absurd in equal measure. Ichirō Mizuki's performance here is fantastic, and unashamedly silly in the best possible way.
Do I need to play Goemon again? Yes. It is on the list. I'm getting to it, I promise.
It's #VgmWednesday somewhere!
I've been listening to Jokabi's "Chilltendo" Lo-fi set while getting some things done. It's got some Animal Crossing, Pokemon, Zelda, and a little bit of Chrono Trigger and Mario :D
And it was released in 2020, so no AI >:D

Long time, no see #VgmWednesday :)
My contribution this week isn't a song, per se, but an entire longplay!§
I happened upon Paul Norman's #ForbiddenForest for the C64 played by Reinhard Klinksiek. What strikes me as so interesting about the music is how the whole game is one continuous scene, the whole soundtrack sounds like movements in a opera, with "level clear" being a refrain. A textless game that feels very story driven.

For #vgmwednesday I was looking for a track that caught my ear yesterday as I was playing Trails in the Sky and got to the abandoned schoolhouse.
But I couldn’t find the track name.
Until I started up the game again this evening and gave Shazam a try.
To my surprise it actually recognised the track.

I watched a Digital Foundry video on Sunsoft, which includes Naoki Kodaka's work of course. There's a section dedicated just to the Batman license games. I didn't realize that the NES Stage 1 and 5 (or Stage 2 and 5 on Famicom) song was also used on the PC Engine game in Stage 2.
For today’s #vgmwednesday, perhaps the most nerve-wracking battle theme in #PaperMario The Origami King:

Yeah it’s the Dual-Bladed Dualistic/Scissors boss theme. The boss that can literally cut you in half if you mess up, one-shotting Mario there and then.
This is one of those things that makes you realise the game would be M/R rated if everyone wasn’t made of paper. It literally uses people’s torn off faces for a monster and cuts a 10 year old in 4
For #VgmWednesday, in celebration of Metal Gear Solid 4 finally being free of the Playstation3, here is Metal Gear Saga.
I wonder if the rerelease will still have the Apple iPod™ 🤔
a veryyyy good one for #vgmwednesday !

I've been inconsistent as hell with #vgmwednesday but I want to start posting more video game music. Tonight, I present the 'Staff Roll' for Super Mario 64. This song has stuck with me ever since I beat Mario 64 for the first time at the age of six through the Wii Virtual Console. SM64's soundtrack in general is memorable, but this one really means a lot to me. I didn't finish many games as a kid, I often got stuck mid-way through. However, 64 was one of the few mainline Mario games I reached the ending credits of at a young age. The tune that played once the game was finished really gave me a sense of accomplishment. Listening to it now, it makes me feel nostalgic for a time I might never be able to return to. What was once a big achievement for me is now something I can easily do over a single weekend.
However, this song also makes me feel somewhat hopeful. It is almost like Mario is saying "thanks for joining me on my adventure, now go on a journey of your own".
