It's #VGMWednesday? I've played a lot of Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles IV: Turtles in Time on the SNES recently and this track's a banger. I think the arcade version is a little better though so that's the one you're getting. youtube.com/watch?v=1ZCTvoihH8

Greetings #VGMWednesday

You have entered the poisoned fields. Begin your quest to recover all 13 runestones and every guardian's shard.

Collect a smattering of crystals and most importantly potentially enthusiastic adventurers, witness the nature of reality mold around you that accommodates level design separately for 1 player, 2 players, 3 players, and 4 players.

MM. DOWN THE HATCH.

GREEN WIZARD NEEDS GROOVES BADLY.

José the Bronx Rican not only made the Balance and Ruin #OCReMix album trailer (without using assets from Final Fantasy VI once they reached a licensing agreement with Square Enix) he also made a hip hop arrangement of Relm's theme. "Pure Essence" is described as an "R&B 'confection'" in the artist notes and it's got that nice mellow tag on the site. Sit back and relax while Relm paints your picture... until your picture gets up and walks around.

For today's #vgmwednesday I just have to pick the cave music from Super Castlevania IV on Super Nintendo.

I just posted a review for it from Mean Machines and this music started playing in my head. 😅

For #vgmwednesday I have a question rather than a track.

What are some good video game OSTs or albums good for burning to a CD to keep in your car, to rock it like it's 2003?

I keep the SotN and WipEout OSTs in my car. They fit onto CDs well and had music that just screams "put me on a plastic frisbee and crank it up!" Many modern OSTs have a lot of music and don't fit cleanly onto a standard 80 min CD.

While I'm on my Metroid Prime kick, this track really struck me as different from all of the other music while moving through the world. It doesn't give traditional "water level" vibes but it has that type of calm to it.

The disparity between the music and the scene dressing drives up the creepy/serene feeling.

So, admittedly, when I post stuff for #VGMWednesday , I am usually most of the way through, or I have completed the game.

Not the case today, I am still wading my way through the LV-426 inspired levels of Alien Trilogy. Thankfully, now I have a pulse rifle, ho ho ho. Wait, crossing the streams there.

Anyway. Today's track is the music that plays during the first stage of the game, it is a great track that sets the mood of the game, an ambient thunder storm with sci-fi noises creates a really uneasy atmosphere. They even baked in some Xenomorph-esque sounds to really keep you on edge!

Honestly, the game soundtrack has me immediately noping before anything comes into view. Personally, I think the USCM, at the first sight of trouble, should just nuke it from orbit.
It really is the only way to make sure.

For today’s #VGMWednesday, here’s the World Bowser remix from #MarioKartWorld. Makes an already funky theme even funkier!

It's no Mick Gordon, but the OST of Doom: The Dark Ages is well worth the listen. 🔥

#VGMWednesday BONUS FEATURE

Given the passing of Brian Wilson, I also have to share the Sonic 3 montage set to Beach Boys' "Wouldn't It Be Nice", where Dr. Robotnik catches up with his long-lost grandfather Gerald (and his henchman Stone reflects on *his* feelings for Robotnik):

Andrew Aversa (zircon) was co-director for the #OCReMix Final Fantasy VI album project, Balance and Ruin and arranged Shadow's theme as a Spaghetti Western, but it doesn't work without all of the others on the project, including the session artist hired to play harmonica (Frank Witkam). Jillian Aversa provided vocals, Jeff Ball played violin, and Joe Zeija (XPRTNovice) did the whistling, played guitar and trumpet. Give a listen to "A Fistful of Nickels."

#VGMWednesday Have an enby's really excellent chiptune remix of the cloud castle music in the second Game Boy Castlevania game.

Everyone going to need these Praying Hands.

Yesterday I stopped by GameStop looking for a Switch 2 case and maybe a deal on used games. Picked up Metroid Prime Remastered for cheap, I'm excited to revisit this game that I loved as a kid!

The synthy, almost theramin-like main instrument on the title theme has stuck with me for two decades, I would love to find more music that sounds like Metroid Prime sounds.

For #VGMWednesday I have something a bit different.

For various reasons, I ended up watching Sonic 3 this weekend and...it was surprisingly good for a kids movie! In particular, Jim Carrey took Dr. Robotnik in some very fun directions - including this scene, with a delightful twist on the "breaking into a laser-protected vault" trope.

For #vgmwednesday here is a track simply titled "Prologue" from the OCRemix album Balance and Ruin.

The whole Balance and Ruin album is phenomenal (and free!). It ran afoul of SquareEnix before its release due to a Kickstarter to release physical albums. I don't know if the details of that or the agreement that settled it is publicly known, but after seemingly being cancelled for awhile, it was back on and released in 2013.

The Prologue sticks pretty close to the spirit of the original work, but with phenomenal dramatic flare and high production values. It beautifully transitions into a tear-inducing arrangement of the main theme.

If you haven't listened to this album yet, I cannot recommend it enough. Like the original FF6 OST, literally every track is good.

So it’s #vgmwednesday again huh?

Honestly I could just put the whole #MarioKartWorld soundtrack here. It’s all amazing.

But here’s the epic Bowser’s Road remix from that game, which takes a classic #SuperMario64 song and makes it even better:

Christ, #VGMWednesday just rolls in so quickly these days.

Today, I want to show a game that hijacked my attention, and I spent a good couple of days chipping away at.

Golden Axe Warrior for #MasterSystem is a weird game, a top-down adventure RPG very very VERY similar to the NES Zelda.

It's a really good time, honestly! Even if the magic management can be a pain and some enemies are just the worst to fight... Just like Zelda!

So, what track am I going to showcase? Well, I was going to go for the Magic Room theme, which is very Golden Axe, but I figured I'd go with the 『Overworld』theme as it is the one you will probably be hearing the most.

youtu.be/6CknbjbrZx4?si=oORgsK

Graciously, in my opinion, it's a solid track and provides a suitable backing to wandering aimlessly around trying to stumble into the next dungeon or searching for secret rooms!

The game is worth playing if you enjoy classic Zelda, as it is a great alternative!

With the game for the month being #FinalFantasyVI, how can I not go with Terra's theme? There are 32 entries on #OCReMix which use it at least partially, but I'm going with one of the oldest. AmIEvil's "Death on the Snowfield."
