Inspired by this to style a Windows Terminal+PowerShell prompt like a VT320 term using your font and oh-my-posh.

Honestly I spent way too much time making it work, but it does look pretty cool.

The toolbar is an illusion, though - actually part of the prompt. I wish OMP had a way to "pin" a block at the top of the terminal.

(no I won't add the retro terminal effects in WT because it's ugly and annoying)

I need a larger desk. I want an amber screen #DEC #VT320 to go on it. I still won't have enough desk space then but I will be happy

I'm basically self-taught in regards to anything #IT and I think being humble about things is the way to go.

I did start OS/1337 asking myself "What is the simplest OS where I as a (#Linux & #Unix-esque only - cuz I don't do #Windows!) #Sysadmin could do my job under?" and turns out in therms what isn't "#BigIron" aka. somewhere remote, all I need is the modern incarnation of a #DEC-Style #Terminal like a #VT320 but with like #OpenSSH to get connected...

@beka_valentine Whereas a monitor can't do anything on it's own but output the image sent to it.

Only if you add an input device [regardless if a touchscreen or a keyboard] and enable it to connect to a system to do the computing will you get a #Terminal.

A classical "dumb terminal" is the #VT320.. .

Granted that's just the "core" system: with only #linux, #toybox and #dropbear as #ssh client...

Nothing else...

It can barely get on #Ethernet and #SSH to #IPv4-reachable hosts.

Not much more.

So it'll turn your #i486 and up into a SSH-Terminal not dissimilar from classic terminals like the #VT320...

Random thought that I don't feel like putting spoons into right now:

I wonder if there's a console PDF viewer that doesn't require UTF-8? Something I can use on a #VT320 with 8-bit ASCII (ISO-8859-1 I think).

My VT320 is sitting around in the bedroom doing nothing. I could move it into the lab and (among other things) do some datasheet reference.

But most fancy console apps these days use libraries that require UTF-8 support.

@josephholsten Personally I think "RJ-50" / #10p10c should've become the standard, if not 9600/8/N/1 over 6p6c MMJ so one can plug a #VT320 directly into it!

I’ve never done drugs but I have seen a #VT320 smooth scroll and that’s pretty much the same thing.

:fediverse: Now that there are so many people here, maybe there's a chance:

🖥️ In the 1990s, I used a #MicroVAX II with a #DEC #VT320 #terminal like the one shown here, but with an original black plastic case for both the monitor (white monochrome) and keyboard as sold new by the vendor (Evans & Sutherland).

🔎 Has anyone ever come across one of these with the black case? Surely some of these rare models were saved from the landfill.
