Cyclone #Nat is in the South Pacific approaching French Polynesia.

An E'ward track of a tropical cyclone below Tahiti has never happened on record. In fact, Tahiti has never had a landfall. It has had 2 close tracks by 2 Cat 2 storms, BOTH in 1983. #Veena and Rewa.

1983 was an El Nino year, as was 1997 when two cyclones passed near French Polynesia.

The S Pac basin goes as far east as 120W even though few tropical cyclones have ever passed east of 130W (record was Ursula in 1998 @ 124.5W)
