Interestingly I never had any problem with getting parsnip seeds to germinate when sown directly in the selected outdoor growing plot.
I'm looking for some advice on cleaning/remediating a small patch of ground that was a long term domestic waste dump - mostly by incineration (open bonfires). That operation ceased more than 20 years ago.
Currently just digging out the bramble roots and exposing the contaminated ground.
Is there a plant that could be sown here and that might germinate and survive - perhaps a 'green manure'? Definitely not planning to grow veg in this section of this plot!

@annaintheuk
Luckily only a light frost here leaving just a thin 'crust' of frozen soil to break through with the fork π
When digging my veg plot which is an ancient 'burgage plot', I collect all the broken parts of clay pipes. So far only found one bowl but many inches of pipe stem!
@spenbroc I was surprised to see kale on there. Itβs one of my winter staples and favourite veg but I didnβt have it down as a Dig for Victory veg. I thought it was a relatively recent introduction to our UK diets.
Thank you, thatβs one of my misconceptions put right. Always a good thing.
Just planted up 'Nicola' seed potatoes in 4x 30l buckets & should be ready early Winter & give us some new potatoes for Christmas...
Took delivery of my compost (Lakeland Gold) today, finally..! I picked it up when coming through the Lake District two weeks ago (http://www.dalefootcomposts.co.uk), too heavy to bring on regular boat, had to drop with the freight service folks, they got around to dropping off today; along with our gas bottles (just about to run out)..!
