On plant based meat.
For those of us that eat meat, there's really nothing like a good hamburger with an 80/20 ground beef patty and a great brioche bun. A good grind of beef and a good bun are really all that's needed to make a satisfying hamburger. The extra ingredients are enjoyable, incidental, and not always needed, at least in my opinion.
Today I had an Impossible burger. Something that I have periodically. And, I enjoyed it. It has a good flavor, nice mouth feel, and is satisfying.
But I don't think that it should be measured against a beef-based burger. Similarly, a beef-based burger should not be compared with a patty made from pork, turkey, or chicken. They are all a different sandwich.
So, we should embrace that there are good meat alternates available that have numerous benefits when compared to meat, even, as in my case, when the alternate is only periodic.

This is an incredibly interesting study. I still can't help but wonder if the root cause of the drastic difference is just that our horrible food supply just affects animal products more than plant products (and yes, I know the omnivore got high quality meats but that still doesn't preclude animal treatments/feed, etc).
Why the disparity? Well, animal based foods are more popular and corporations have more motive to optimize those foods for profit so could that be the root? I don't have the answers but it's clear that our food supply (especially in the US) is produced for profits and not health or nutrition.
And let me also be clear, I don't fault anyone for going vegetarian or vegan.... Actually I give them props. Regardless of what the reason is there are clearly health benefits.
