After listening to the great talk from @michaelkreil about #Versatiles I finally tried again to play with maps. The result is on https://notfellchen.org/ (not yet selfhosted but will be)
I had like 10 previous tries with other software so this is huge.

Next step: Bing versatiles to the mash-playbook to allow easy self-hosting.

Eigene Karten im Internet zu veröffentlichen, sollte theoretisch einfach sein. In der Praxis ist es jedoch oft komplex, teuer oder das Ergebnis sieht nicht ansprechend aus.

Mit #VersaTiles wurde ein neuer, freier Kartenstack entwickelt, der es allen ermöglicht, interaktive Karten zu nutzen. Dabei ist der Stack so konzipiert, dass er die maximale Flexibilität bietet.

zoom levels 0-12 are about 113GB with brotli level 11 compression in a #versatiles container. i might do land/ocean-only versions and maybe some douglaspeuckering. it will take a bit to upload that to the cdn.

working on hillshade vectors (yes indeed, polygons instead of rasters) for #versatiles using the good old mapzen joerd terrain dataset. i came up with a neat pipeline with maplibre-gl-native, sharp and potrace-wasm doing the heavy lifting.

i might have to set up a blog for all the details.
