When you love the #CrappyCommieCameraParty and the #shittylenschallenge then you have to stop for the Tair 11A 135/2.8 as well. Lot's of character outdoors but it makes also a good impression in the studio.

Walking along a track, a faint noise. What is it? A low hum maybe? Ohhhh....

A Swarm of Bees.

#photography #nature #bees #swarm #VintageLens #jupiter37a

A vertical layout image with a swarm of bees covering the trunk of a small tree. The swarm has a boot like shape, with a large 'foot' at ground level, and a tall vertical cylinder maybe 40cm diameter wrapped around the trunk, tapering off about 1.5m from the ground. Forest vegetation and sparse undergrowth all around.Close up of the swarm near the taper at the top, hundreds of bees all clinging to each other.Close up of the swarm near the middle, hundreds of bees all clinging to each other.

Extreme close-up of a vibrant red bottlebrush plant. The image shows numerous thin, elongated stamens radiating outward from the center, creating a spiky, firework-like appearance. The stamens are tipped with tiny golden anthers, contrasting against the deep red background.

Walking in the forest.

Tea Tree flowers, and beetles.

Is an old 50mm Pentax SMC shitty enough for #shittylenschallenge ?

I finally got an adapter to work with the cheap Canon FD mount lens I picked up several years ago. This is a Toyo Optics f4.5 80-200mm.

It’s pretty slick. Took me a while to figure out how to get into it. Apparently you need to adjust a ring on the back to release the rear lens cap. Then, when putting it back on, pressing it into place releases a catch holding a spring from locking the cap into place. It also has a slide out lens hood.

I haven’t done any shooting at proper light levels to evaluate the quality of the lens (I’m sure it’ll be poor as if seems to be a cheap kit lens), but it’s a neat little lens to try out.

Oh, for folks who haven’t already done your homework, the lens may not work until you turn on “Release Shutter Without Lens” in the menu.

Long black lens with white label dated 8/10/2016 (Canon 80mm-200mm lense, $8.50).

The lens has control rings for zoom, focus, aperture, and rear lens cap release.

Gum tree leaves.

Despite being evergreen, gum trees lose many leaves due to the wind.

#photography #VintageLens #helios44

Dry and decaying gum leaves lay in loose disarray, a carpet that completely covers the ground. Colours vary - faint pink, pale brown/beige, orange - with older leaves a decayed grey underneath.

Miniature Zen Rock Garden?

Not quite.

If you see this pattern, look out! It's a Jack Jumper's nest - an ant that will sting repeatedly, and en masse. They jump about when agitated, hence the name.

Each tiny pebble was carried out, one at a time, as the nest was built. They will select a spot and place each individually until they are happy with it's position. It might look random but they take some care in the placement.

A "close as I will get" image of an ant's nest on the ground (they sting). It is a mound of tiny pebbles (5mm max) about 50cm round and maybe 20cm high. The rocks range in colour from black to pale brown. It is incredibly neat, all other debris has been moved away leaving only the stones, like a zen rock garden. A few ants are just visible near the centre - I wasn't agitating them to get more in the frame.
