I’m in the process of replacing the original 80GB HDD in my iMac G4 with a 240GB SSD.

The first major issue I resolved was successfully burning a new Mac OSX Leopard Install DVD.

Not only does Apple not publically allow for downloading the official install image (paid Dev account required) but the DVD image I can find on the way back machine requires a dual layer DVD which my internal iMac G4 drive can’t read or right.

I’m doing a test install on the original HDD right now.

A photo of the white bordered monitor of an iMac G4 displaying the OSX installer windows overlaying the iconic Aurora wallpaper. The Aurora wallpaper is the blackness of space with a stark white starfield and whips of purples, pinks, and blues originating from the center of the field outward in all directions.

A brand new 68k Mac emulator quietly dropped last night!!

“Snow” can emulate the Mac 128k, 512k, Plus, SE, Classic, and II. It supports reading disks from bitstream and flux-floppy images, and offers full execution control and debugging features for the emulated CPU. Written using Rust, it doesn't do any ROM patching or system call interception, instead aiming for accurate hardware-level emulation.

(Edit: I'm not the author - just spotted this on the Emaculation forum and had to share it!)

(Edit #2: Snow's author, Thomas “twvd" has joined the Fediverse now! Give him a follow at @twvd 👋)

A screen capture of the new “Snow” Mac emulator, that came from its website. It depicts an emulated Mac in the centre of the main window, with a number of floating windows surrounding it: registers, breakpoints, instruction history, watchpoints, and disassembly.

After a long, multi-month break, it’s time to get back to archiving my collection of vintage Mac floppies!

Tonight I’ve got a couple more disks from VMUG, my local Mac user’s group. The first disk is a Christmas disk-of-the-month that has some exclusive icons and cursors - which, as far as I know, don’t exist anywhere online (until now). The second has a number of assorted games, mostly card games but a few others as well. These are both from the ‘96/‘97 timeframe.

Here’s my new additions to the Macintosh Garden from these disks:

InCDius GH - macintoshgarden.org/apps/incdi
Pema’s Cursors - macintoshgarden.org/apps/pemas
Pema’s Christmas Icons - macintoshgarden.org/apps/pemas
Monte Carlo Solitaire - macintoshgarden.org/games/mont
Fortress - macintoshgarden.org/games/fort
Romi (already existed on the Garden, I added version 1.7.0) - macintoshgarden.org/games/romi

I’ve got a LOT more coming over the next few days, with at least one rare program that isn’t possible to run under emulation (as far as I know), so stay tuned!

So a thing happened today!

After researching, watching videos, procrastinating, watching more videos, talking to friends, drinking lots of coffee, and did even more procrastinating, I removed leaky caps from a #MacClassic system board! This was my first attempt at removing caps from a board. Not too bad.

Dealing with C2 and C8 are going to be “fu”n. 🤣😇

There was a changing of the guard today as I upgraded my 2003 PowerMac G4 to a 2013 Mac Pro. New office. New Mac.

Or, in simpler terms, ebony and ivory live together in perfect harmony on my desk for a brief time.

I guess I need to come out clean. I got this whole computer just to install System9 to get to play some old QuickTime-based Star Trek Walking Sims (Captain's Chair & TNG Technical Manual).

“In #macOS Tahoe, Apple introduces the concept of Themes, with new appearance settings that go beyond the traditional Light and Dark modes, allowing you to customize the look of your Mac desktop more than ever.”

Oh my sweet summer child. Have you not heard the legend of “Appearance Manager”? Does "Kaleidoscope" mean nothing to your young mind?

My workshop is too full, so I need to get some stuff ready to sell at MIT Swapfest this weekend. Let's triage these three compact Macintoshes (SE/30 and 2x Mac Plus) to see if we can get any of them ready for sale. I'll go over what you should look for before you power up a newly-purchased one of these. Wednesday (11th) at 3:30PM eastern. #vintagemac youtube.com/live/dyQ9PfyYWlo?f

Should the next #MARCHintosh be dedicated to Bill Atkinson? His work—MacPaint, HyperCard, and a visionary approach to software—defined the soul of early Macintosh. Every retro Mac celebrates him in spirit, but perhaps this time we could make it official.

It’s apparently a Powerbook Duo 230 in great cosmetic shape (apart from the sticky rubber feet)!

Unfortunately the dock didn’t work and I had to use the force eject button to get it out. Also no charger, so can’t test it outside of the dock for now.

From what I can see, OSX is installed. How to get OS9 on it? Is there a way to do it with a USB Stick since I don't have any way to burn a CD or something.

The also had a bunch of Apple Stuff. Including a Apple II and Lisa.

Weirdly, I got a lot of this stuff at home. Maybe it’s time to open a new museum in Berlin. 😂

@hkz Your accelerator seems to work great in my Mac Plus so far! (and I used a regular PAL for U7) #VintageMac

I had one back in 99. I remember it was like $1500 and 6 gig!
