Absolutely thumping, dark, gothic #postpunk .

Only three songs, but this is a case of quality over quantity.

This was the only thing this band ever released.
The record label that put it out, Clay Records, was an independent outfit from Stoke-On-Trent in England. The label put out other acts such as GBH, Discharge, and Play Dead.

I was really surprised to see nice copies of this record going for around $40-50 CAD now, seeing that it was something I bought from a used bin about a decade ago for $5.

Disappointed these dudes never did anything else. They were a pretty cool band.

FANTASTIC #80s #indie / #alternative !!!

Back in the #1980s , my older sisters dated dudes with great taste in music.
I used to steal tapes from their cars all the time.
It was a great (& important) part of my musical education growing up.

One of them had a BUNCH of stuff on labels called Homestead Records/Dutch East India Trading, which I quickly learned was one of THE places for cool music out on the fringes.

One of the tapes I stole was Sum Things Up by Great Plains. I was ecstatic to find this original copy sometime around 2009.

Quirky, catchy indie rock that sort of sounds like Camper Van Beethoven, They Might Be Giants, or maybe a more refined Dead Milkmen in spots? Probably about 5-10 other bands too, but who cares? These songs are fun as fuck.

Ron House would go on to form Thomas Jefferson Slave Apartments.

Hailing from Leeds, this band had a short 6 year run which consisted of two studio albums and a slew of singles.

THIS is a compilation of the band’s first two singles on Decoy (Gutted, Our New Skin).

Really great band with excellent songs.

So I decided on this EXCELLENT sounding bootleg of the band’s 1979 BBC sessions.

Killer set list here. And again… it SOUNDS killer. The fidelity is top-notch and it sounds like they’re in the room.

These white-covered Radio Broadcast releases have all sounded fantastic.

Man, were these guys incredible live. They are absolutely ON FIRE here.

A few things about this wonderful single:

This is some deliriously infectious, bright, feel-good reggae. It’s hard to not hear this wonderful tune and not get a little burst of pep. It’s so damn good.

Secondly… just look at THAT LABEL!

That is one of the coolest looking labels I’ve ever seen. If you were a record collector, came across this in a shop and saw THAT label, you wouldn’t even care what music was on it. You’d just get it. No questions asked. Because the Mummy would tell you all you needed to know. 😂

Undoubtedly, that’s more than likely what I did, wherever and however long ago I found this.

Just a great single! 🔥

The first Colin Newman solo album that was meant to be the next Wire album.
That is… until EMI decided to get fucky.

It’s a wonderfully weird record. There’s definitely some none-Wire sounding moments on it, but ultimately, it doesn’t stray too far from that band’s awesomeness. It’s every bit as great as those first three records, and to this day, it’s far and away the best solo work.

“& Jury” is awesome, and “Alone” was actually used in The Silence Of The Lambs.

This might be one of my favorite pulls from the downstairs wreckage so far.
Awesome, muscle-y #90s rock from Baltimore, Maryland.

Almost assuredly another I procured from Newbury Comics back in the day. I used to buy a LOT of 7”s like this, but so many didn’t make the journey with me from Boston to Van Isle 17 years ago.

Glad this one did.
Love them guitars.
