One of the hardest things for me at a fashion show is not to admit that I used to be a fashion show model myself.

At least, avatar scripts are allowed today. Nonetheless, I see more models teleport out and back in and walk onto the catwalk as orange clouds.

My thoughts about Wednesday:

How not to do a virtual fashion show

By the way, I may write a piece about how we did it two years ago.

Yes, I'm dancing in a dangerously short ruffled dress now. In front of at least one TV camera. I've never danced in one of these dresses before, so I don't know how dangerous it is.

But it was hot today.

And besides, it's the Beat-Club, home of dangerously short skirts and dresses.

That was one party...

I was at the Sunday event near my OSgrid home again.

The music was mostly metal with a bit of hard rock. And it was hopelessly overdriven with loads of distortion. That became painfully obvious during the last song but one, a modern hip-hop/R&B song with the usual crazy amounts of bass. The DJ clearly didn't listen to what exactly went out to the stream.

I wore a miniskirt. Still, for most of the event, I wore the only skirt or dress that ended below the crotch. Seriously, tight skirts or dresses that line up with your crotch should not be worn for dancing.

One female avatar who joined later wore a skirt that was about as short as a typical micro-mini around here, but with four slits for the legs. Another one wore a dress that was longer than my skirt at the back, but completely open at the front.

I mean, the location where we were allows total nudity with no problems, and I have been there naked before. But still, it's amazing how modest a miniskirt is in OpenSim.

Oh, and I spent a while dancing with a guy. He let me lead, i.e. control the dance ball. He asked me why I insisted in leading. I told him I know the dance ball inside-out, and I wanted to make sure that the dance fits the music as far as that's possible.

I remember dancing with a guy who immediately took over the dance ball menu and went straight for the slow dances, regardless of the music actually being uptempo. And I wanted to avoid that.

Well, the guy today told me that he usually picked matching dances himself, but he let me lead because he was lazy.

It's so hot today that my (virtual) outfit is a bikini, a pair of sandals and a pair of hot pants to make the bikini SFW outside of beaches.

I've updated the guide for mesh clothes for Ruth2 in my Ruth2 and Roth2 wiki.

Some changes:
  • Kaydi Rose Designs is a new entry.
  • I've also added the fashion store I run at Nautilus Anchorage Landing in OSgrid; it currently mostly serves as another Deva Moda backup store plus some hard-to-acquire additional Taarna Welles footwear. I've still got two floors to fill, though.
  • The Great Canadian Grid is gone again, so the two shops there were removed.
  • Astralia ShoppingCity lost the retextured Clutterfly and Damien Fate content, so the shops there were removed, too.
  • Birch Grove is now Birch Grove Winter and currently inaccessible. I've changed one shop that's at all four Birch Groves to Birch Grove Spring and suspended the other two. That said, Jamie Wright/Anna Cooper has a new sim in the making which will permanently offer stuff from at least one of these shops.
  • Shopaholic was torn down and completely rebuilt quite a while ago. Sabi no longer offers her textured Damien Fate clothes. Thus, Shopaholic was removed.
  • The Public World went offline by the turn of the year with no announcement. I'll keep Loru Destiny's shop at the TPW-Mall suspended until things clear up.

Shopping City in Astralia has lost almost all its appeal now.

Cloe Kegel has ripped out the last remaining shops that offered legal mesh clothes and replaced them with more outlets for stolen SL clothes for stolen SL bodies. For some of the items in these shops, Shopping City was the very last place all over the Hypergrid where you could get them. Now they're gone. No longer available anywhere.

Some two dozen tank top and miniskirt sets textured by Illiana Blachere and based on Damien Fate meshes, gone. Another Damien Fate-based set by Avia Bonne with an exclusive handbag which, I think, Avia has made herself, gone. And so forth. At least Oddball Otoole's Damien Fate texturings are still available at Riverford in Craft-World.

But Shopping City has lost the best reason to go there.

Maybe, just maybe I can get into contact with Cloe or the former owner of La Tortuga and ask them if they've still got the sales boxes, and if I can have them to keep the content alive. It'll certainly be more difficult and require more luck than my successful rescue of the Deva Moda clothes and make-up, and I'll have permissions to fix.

If that fails, I guess @Juno Rowland and I will have some god-moding, permission-fixing and repackaging to do. Unfortunately, there are some items of which I don't know who made the textures because Cloe probably accidentally overwrote all credentials at some point in the past.

It's such a pity that so many who offer custom-textured Clutterfly or Damien Fate clothes or even obscure old layer clothes are or were sloppy, careless shopkeeps who never check what they slap against their shop walls, much less repair what's broken. Otherwise I'd be in possession of many many more sales boxes.

Sometimes, the only way to save content that's becoming increasingly rare is actually by copybotting it out-right because the items or sales boxes have botched rights, they can't be picked up in any "legal" way, and the shop owner can't be bothered to fix them. I'm almost tempted to take a copybot viewer to Sinus and save the Damien Fate stuff from Eva Kraai's shop because Eva flat-out refuses to fix her old content as she told me herself.

This wouldn't be so bad if the Ruth2 and Roth2 families didn't have to rely on Clutterfly and especially Damien Fate for legal mesh clothes. Chances are that the Max family will eventually get brand-new mesh clothes rigged just for these bodies, but Ruth2 and Roth2 with their unusable dev kits will probably rely on that slowly vanishing old stuff for good, even though Damien Fate makes Ruth2 v4 look pudgy and Roth2 v2 look thin as a twig.

I found a whole bunch of boots on Craft-World and Astralia, but I always had the feeling I didn't have all variants. So I tried to find out where they originally came from. This wasn't exactly easy because none of them still bear their original creator entry.

Something told me to pay Littlefield Mall a visit, also because that's one place I hadn't checked in a while that only offers legal content. I knew that the creator of some of these boots is Ada Wong, and I should have figured from that that she might have more than that one beachwear store on Coney Island.

Now, one thing is particular at least about Littlefield Mall, maybe even also about the three adjacent shopping sims: The contents offered in the stores can only be acquired by Littlefield Grid residents. Hypergridders shouldn't even be able to pick anything up, much less take it with them.

That's because Littlefield Grid has special agreements with Second Life creators to distribute their creations. But while some Second Life creators only demand their creations be offered no-transfer, maybe also only to members of a hard-to-join group, those who supplied Littlefield Grid only did so under the condition that only grid residents can have their creations.

As it turned out, Ada Wong does have a store at Littlefield Mall. And she has scripts in all her sales boxes which not only provide the only way of acquiring the contents of the boxes, but which also only give these contents to grid residents and inform Hypergridders only even looking at the box contents that they're Littlefield exclusives.

This means that while the layer swimwear I got from Ada's shop on Coney Island is legal, her unrigged mesh boots and skates in my inventory are not. Apparently, someone has copybotted them from Littlefield Mall. And apparently, hardly anyone knows about this limitation because at least one female starter avatar box offered at Lbsa Plaza, OSgrid's official welcome and landing sim that's also to guide and supply newbies, contains a pair of Ada Wong boots. Maybe I'll notify whoever made these boxes. I mean, it isn't like Lbsa Plaza offers the usual copybotted Second Life content otherwise; OSgrid officially has a strict anti-content theft policy.

Anyway, there were still four pairs of boots whose creator I hadn't been able to track down until that visit. I actually suspected them to have been stolen from Second Life in pre-mesh times. What I didn't know was something I should have known if I spent more time on Littlefield Grid, especially outside Ruritania: They come from Camryn Darkstone, the wife of the Littlefield grid owner Walter Balazic. She has contributed to Littlefield Mall herself, and she has two stores there plus a few boxes at the market square.

These four pairs of boots, however, were absent not only from Littlefield Mall, but from the three neighbouring sims as well. I couldn't figure out whether I was allowed to have these boots. So I sent Camryn a message. Now I'm waiting for a reply.

As for Ada's stuff, I think I'll remove it from my inventory. I might stash it away in boxes first, just in case, also because the one shop at Astralia Shopping City that used to offer her ankle boots has since been removed and replaced with a new building that only offers outfits stolen straight from Second Life. That means that Ada's store at Littlefield Mall has become the only remaining source for at least some of the variants.

It's a pity, though, because legal boots of these kinds are hard to find in OpenSim. Aaack Aardvark offers rigged mesh ankle boots at his Arcadia Store, but their style doesn't fit all kinds of outfits. Albeit in different ways, the same goes for the few pairs of ankle boots which the grandmistress of footwear, Taarna Welles. She has made knee-high boots as well, in ten colours even, but even though the soles are easy on the ground, sometimes you want stilettos.

There's also a footwear shop at Needful Things which resides on Pangea now, and that shop offers several kinds of boots that I haven't seen anywhere else. However, Needful Things doesn't only offer legal content, I can't figure out who created these boots, and that self-same footwear shop does offer boxes that clearly come from Second Life, and that are all over the Hypergrid.

Oh well, maybe Maxine will turn out to be a good mesh body with a good dev kit that'll spawn a lot of creativity. After all, we might need a whole lot of new clothes. And even though new pumps and sandals will be more urgent because boots are fairly universal, maybe some new rigged mesh boots will come along. Preferably also with medium-height heels.

In the meantime, I could finally try to make me an alpha mask for Snik Snoodle's ankle boots.

Taarna Welles is more active again these days. She's said to have new content in the making, and given her track record, that could mean more Ruth2 clothing. Christmas may come early this year.

On the other hand, it might not be long until Max comes out. Who knows how well clothes rigged for Ruth 2.0 will fit Maxine?
