Visible mending

I was thinking these socks were through but then I decided to try a technique I've seen recently: adding an actual patch.

I picked up stitches below the whole damaged area, a few stitches wider than the damage. I knit enough rows to cover everything, then grafted the live stitches at the top and sewed the sides down.

On the inside I got away the worst damage and then wove loosely over the whole to fix the sides.

The buttonhole is repaired with a woven darn in two shades of teal, creating new fabric where the fabric tore. The buttonhole itself has also been stitched over with buttonhole stitch to reinforce it.

The thing with these #sashiko pants is—I can wear them for a couple of days before a new hole develops and they end up on the to-do list again until I get around to mending them again.

I'm... I'm sure it's just a matter of time before I mend all the parts that wear out. And then I'm done. Right? Oh well, at least they get prettier with every mend.

Leichte Verlängerung der Fahrradwerkzeugtasche durch Annähen eines gewebten Bändchens. Einziehen eines "neuen" Reißverschlusses (der müsste noch aus Vorwendezeiten sein, die Zähne sind nicht magnetisch - vllt. aus Aluminium?)

Over knitting is the way to go, and I'm all ready! I did change the yarn to something a bit thinner. It's now self striping sick yarn

a knitted sleeve with big holes. knitting needles are inserted on three sides of the holes and the bottom needle has one knitted row and is ready for more.

I have to repair this sleeve, eaten away by moths 😩. I plan on using the yarn seen on top, which is bigger than the yarn used on this commercial sweater.

Any tips, tutorials, for me?

Got a joiner doing some work. Yesterday the dust bag on his electric plainer got all shredded by the belt. Shoddy bit of work from Bosch really- the seams of the bag were not taped or serged or anything- no good for dust and lots of loose threads to get caught in the zip or belt. He was annoyed. An hour with the sewing kit last night and it's all fixed up. Saved him £30 and a trip to the merchants. I'll try and get a photo when I'm out of bed. #VisibleMending #kindness #MakeDoAndMend
