I grew this bountiful #GroundCherry plant from seeds collected from last year's #VolunteerPlant. I dug a volunteer ground cherry plant out from a sidewalk crack, last year & transplanted into a pot. That plant provided loads of #fruits. I saved 2 of the largest fruits for sowing this year's plants - gave several seeds away too.

Today I learned that you can propagate amaranth from stem cuttings.

A couple of weeks ago I thinned out the amaranth patch by cutting them at the base, stripping off the leaves (and eating them), and then throwing the stalks in the compost pile.

I just went out to add some more to the heap and saw that two stalks had rooted and sprouted again!

Ah, I have figured out what the volunteer squash plant is!

Last year, I went to visit @Lady_Eglantine at her new house, and while shopping there fell in love with this little spooky pumpkin. After spooky season, he was retired to the compost bin.

The giant squash plant emerging from the compost bin has finally formed enough shape for me to feel confident this is from that pumpkin. (The other options were summer squash or zucchini.)

Compost escapee squash (it’s literally growing out of a hole in the bin) is growing a squash!!

Taking bets now on what our volunteer squash is!

Huh, volunteer tomato plant!!! With ripe tomatoes! #gardening #volunteerplant

Small tomato absolutely loaded with small cherry like tomatoes, growing on a neglected patch of gravel next to a stucco house painted the color of the 1980s

Took a nice walk this evening to check in on the rogue corn growing out of the storm drain. After a false alarm (I forgot how far down the road it was!) we found her! Still living her best life.

A photo of a stalk of corn, a few feet tall, with several long green leaves branching off the main stem. It looks like a fairly normal cornstalk except for the fact that it is growing out of a 2 inch crack in the curb on the edge of the road where there is a storm drain.Closeup on the same stalk of corn showing healthy leaves and stem. No flowering yet!

Why is my best growing sunflower so far the one a bird/squirrel planted randomly back against the fence??

The fence is six feet tall, and the sunflower is only a few inches below the topA photo of the top of the sunflower plant. There is one large flower bud on top, and four more visible where other stems branch off the main stem.

These flowers just "volunteered". I guess the people that used to live here planted them...
