It looks like this bill would make in-person voting default and folks would need to request mail ballots. Our current system sends out all ballots by mail automatically.

"The Oklahoma House has given its nod to a new bill that ratchets up voter ID regulations; if you're planning on voting in 2027, you'll need to show a picture of yourself.

"The legislation dubbed House Bill 1005, spearheaded by Rep. Jim Olsen, R-Roland, is now one step closer to becoming law after coasting through the House with significant support, as reported by the Oklahoma House of Representatives' official site.

MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- "Voters will not only have to present a #PhotoID to vote on April 1, but they'll also be asked about adding that requirement to the state constitution.

"It's part of a constitutional amendment that will appear on ballots across the state.

"The ballot referendum asks voters, 'shall section 1m of article III of the constitution be created to require that voters present valid photographic identification verifying their identity in order to vote in any election, subject to exceptions which may be established by law?'

"A 'yes' vote would enshrine Wisconsin's voter requirement in the state constitution, a move that would make it harder for a court to strike down the law or for lawmakers to repeal.

"Voting 'no' would not add the state's voter ID law to the constitution.

"If the ballot measure is approved or rejected, little would change for Wisconsin voters because the existing photo ID law has been on the books for nearly a decade, said Bryna Godar at the State Democracy Research Initiative at the University of Wisconsin Law School.

This is wild to read. I THINK this just applies to registering to vote AT the polls, but even though this passed more than a year ago, people don’t know about this and that’s weird.

This lady is a bad ass for going back for her marriage certificate and coming back again. After I got sent away the second time I don’t know that I would have gone back (I would have out of pure SPITE at that point lol)

The impact in 2026 is less certain because the law on #voterID may well have changed by then. Indeed the public estimate of two million voters disfranchised can be seen as an - entirely legitimate - attempt to influence any such legislation.

It looks consistent with the summer 2023 survey of individuals who did not vote which included a prompt to cite #voterID issues - as distinct from ones which did not. The latter also showed a differential effect between parties which was consistent with the 2023 election results. In my view the unprompted survey results had a degree of independent validation that the prompted ones lacked..
