"The podcast for February 23, 2026 is an interview of Destie Hoffman Sprague who is the Executive Director of the Maine's Women Lobby. The show focused on a referendum question that will be on the Maine ballot this coming fall which would restrict transgender students’ access to school sports and facilities. Destie first talked about why the League is involved in this issue and why it has joined a coalition to defeat the proposal. The coalition contends the referendum will increase bullying and harassment, cost schools millions in potential ligation and undermine public education. According to Destie the referendum is spearheaded by the group Protect Girls Support in Maine which seeks to mandate sports by sex, requiring public school students to play on sports teams based on the sex listed on their birth certificates. Destie believes the effort to restrict transgender students from playing sports in Maine is primarily driven by the Trump Administration which has threatened to pull federal education funding if the state does not ban transgender girls from female sports. Maine's Governor, Janet Mills, Attorney General Aaron Frey, and the Maine Principals’ Association are opposed. In closing, Destie encouraged listeners to get involved in the fight to defeat this measure. which would undermine Maine's existing #HumanRightsAct which protects #GenderIdentity."

WHAT WE ACCEPT:
+ All kinds of fabric in pieces a quarter yard or larger, with intact selvedges, including bolts and rolls of fabric. Clean and folded is very much appreciated!
+ Notions like zippers, bias tape, velcro, elastic, thread, buttons. We do not want second-hand fusible items like interfacing.
+ Sewing tools like scissors, thread snips, needles, pins and pincushions, tape measures, chalk, seam rippers, supply organizers, dress forms.
+ Domestic sewing machines, depending on the model. We do not accept domestic sewing machine cabinets (space is limited and machines need to be able to fit on a shelf). We also take spare manuals, presser feet, power cords, bobbins, and other machine accessories.
+ Sewing patterns that are neatly folded and have not been cut into.
+ Sewing books, but not magazines.
+ Finished quilts, quilt tops, quilt squares.
+ Vintage handmade linens, such as embroidered napkins and handkerchiefs.
+ Batting, fiber fill, pillow forms, and foam.
+ Yarn - in skeins or balls and not tangled.
+ Knitting needles and crochet hooks.
+ Embroidery floss, embroidery and cross stitch supplies.
+ Beads, cord, and sequins.
+ Dyeing supplies
+ Rug hooking supplies, felting supplies
+ Any tools related to textile crafting.
WHAT WE DO NOT TAKE:
+ Dirty and damaged fabric and notions. Old thread, elastic, and interfacing will usually be thrown out.
+ Patterns that have been poorly re-folded and/or cut up.
+ Most magazines (some exceptions made for high-quality publications).
+ Bed sheets, curtains, tablecloths, etc. are better used by other organizations. Please do not donate the cut-off bottoms of curtains or clothing!!!
+ Finished or partially finished clothing or any other works in progress (with the exception of quilt squares).

I plan on talking a bit about #DavidBowie's influence on me as both a #genderfluid and #queer person. And also how Bowie wanted to make a musical version of #Orwell's #NineteenEightyFour , but #GeorgeOrwell's widow wouldn't give him permission. Some of the songs Bowie came up with appeared on 1974's #DiamondDogs. Yup. This is the type of stuff I plan on talking about on the air. #FuckAuthoritarianism!
