If full presumed liability is too big for #waleg to swallow in one bite, what if it only applied to pedestrians in marked crosswalks, like in Poland? I think that would have less opposition.

Washington Talking Book and Braille Library will no longer have walk-in hours – access is by appointment only – and also only accepting voicemails – no one answering phones. This is due to illegal cuts to IMLS and failure of the state legislature to backfill the budget. #waleg #disability

Washington State is showing up where the federal government is failing us.
Thanks to the Climate Commitment Act, #WALeg can fund projects all over the state that: make clean energy at home more affordable, make it easier to get around with zero-emission, climate-friendly options, and so much more.

"HB 1409 isn’t just about reducing emissions—it’s about centering equity in Washington’s clean energy transition. This bill ensures frontline communities and diverse small businesses aren’t left behind but are empowered to lead in building a more just, inclusive, and sustainable future,” said Paula Sardinas, Founder, Washington Build Back Black Alliance

Special shoutout to major climate champion, Rep. Joe Fitzgibbon who not only held the line on climate progress, but kept pushing forward, and Sen. Sharon Shewmake, who helped shepherd HB 1409 through the Senate.
We need more climate champs like them in #WALeg

Yet another federal attack on all things climate and clean energy.
#WALeg can and should take the lead on our clean energy transition and pick up work on our transmission lines, community charging infrastructure, and more in the next legislative session

There is plenty of work yet to do. But in a year of a big state budget crunch, and attacks coming from the federal level, Washington proved that we will remain a beacon of progress, and we won’t back down on climate action. #WALeg

Be careful! Some blame #waleg for inaction on tax reform, but that downplays the WA governor’s real power over fiscal policy. Recent events show #wadems shifted course after Gov. Bob Ferguson’s remarks—his influence clearly shaped what did or didn’t get passed. #bobfergusonbetrayal

The fact is that Washington State simply does not generate enough revenue to sustain our current level of services. A 2016 study_commissioned by the Legislature found that if we adopted Idaho's tax code, we would have an extra $10 billion per year in revenue. This would help protect our essential public services from federal cuts as well as sustain our schools, hospitals, universities, roads, and transit systems.
In previous budget crises, Washington State's leaders could embrace austerity at the state level, knowing that federal appropriations would help sustain the rest of the economy. This was not a wise decision financially, economically, or politically.
The last two rounds of austerity, in 2003 and 2011, were followed by open seat gubernatorial elections Republicans very nearly won.
By contrast, the 2024 election, also featuring an open gubernatorial seat, was easily won by Bob Ferguson, after several years of a Democratic Legislature adding new investments in public services and raising taxes on the state's wealthiest residents.
Legislators and Governor Ferguson appear to be muddling their way through budget negotiations this year, raising some taxes here and there while also making big cuts across the board. They appear to want to avoid tackling the larger issue of fixing the
