Today's #WalesCoastalPath #wander took me from #Aberthaw to #Porthkerry, so some photos for #PhotoMonday

#LeysBeach
A family of Mute #Swans
A #CommonBlue #Butterfly
and #Barrybados looking lush

#Cymru #Wales

Looking along the coastline. In the foreground a concrete wall backs a brick pavement which curves gently down to a pebble beach. The mouth of an unseen stream separates this beach from a further long pebble and rock beach. In the mouth of the stream, 4 white, mute swans swim. In the distance on the right hand side a triangular metal structure reaches into the sky. To the left, the Bristol channel is calmly reflecting a blue sky. A rounded concrete structure, the water intake for the power station, sits just offshore. The Devon coastline can be seen rising on the opposite side of the channelA bright white Mute Swan with an orange beek leads four grey brown cygnets across calm green waterA butterfly sits amongst sharp stones, feeding on the single yellow amongst them. It's wings are closed. They are light brown with with white edges and black and yellow spotsBushes frame a v shaped slice of blue sea. Opposite, a steep white pebble beach gives way to houses and flats. Amongst them, a large wheel and tall spire of a fun fair can be seen

A 2Broad Bodied Chaser" Dragonfly, clinging to a dry brown, bare, branch.

The dragonfly has a grey body with black underside and tip to its tail. There are two bright yellow spots on its side, just behind it's wings, which are transparent, apart from a single dark spot on the leading edge of each.A "Scarlet Tiger Moth"

The moth is sitting on narrow grass stems with its wings outstretched. The outer wings are dark black with with splashes of yellow and green. Its underwings are bright red with splashes of blackA "Red Belted Sand Wasp" carries a bright green caterpillar into it's burrow. The wasp has a black head, body and tip to its tail. It has a very narrow "waist" which is orange in colour.A "Ruddy Darter" Dragonfly sits on a broad green leaf.

It is blood red in colour with a single black spot on the leading edge of each of it's transparent wings

Ticked off another short section of the #WalesCoastalPath today, Not the prettiest start at #Aberthaw #PowerStation, but photographic in it's own way. A giant Rubik Cube and Die was a surprise spot, before the usual impressive coastal views of the #Glamorgan #HeritageCoast kicked in. Finished at #LlantwitMajor #beach

#Cymru #Wales #Landscape #Seascape

A large smooth sided, mostly white, building dominated the landscape. A tall dark chimney rises from the centre of it. A row of large grey concrete blocks leads from the camera towards the building. A wide bank of wildflowers follows the line of the blocks, they are mostly white or various shades of red and purpleA large imposing, modern looking, power station squats behind a bank of pebbles. A line of electricity pylons leads away to it's left. A number of very large concrete blocks lie on the pebbles and scrubland in front of the building. One of them has been painted in multicolour squares, so that it resembles a Rubik's cube. A second has been painted to resemble a white die, five dots on the top face, 4 on the front and 1 on the right.A rocky beach leads away from the camera, backed by a high bank of white pebbles. In the distance a wooded headland sits above a dark blue sea, reflecting an almost cloudless sky. To the right green farmland stretches to the horizonA long rocky beach stretches out into the distance, A calm pale blue sea reflects a cloudless sky. A grassy border leads along the cliff top rising over climbing sheer limestone and mudstone cliffs. In the distance, the sea wall of St Donat's Castle can be seen, backed by a wooded hillside, above which, Nash Point lighthouse rises

Took a short walk this morning from #NashPoint to #ColHuwPoint (aka ##LlantwitMajor #Beach). It's a great section of the #WalesCoastalPath with a #Lighthouse #WW2 #PillBox(es), the famous #StDonatsCastle and, of course, some great views.

Looking up to the dome at the top of a circular, white lighthouse. A weather vane in the shape of an arrow sits atop a riveted metal dome. Below this the Light Room is glazed with diamond shaped panes. Behind the lighthouse wispy white clouds pass through a deep blue skyLooking at the Lighthouse complex at Nash point. The main lighthouse is to the right of the photo, To the left of this are a number of single storey buildings , one of which supports the large fog horn. Finally to the far left is a circular tower topped with a flat roof and a guard rail. All the buildings are painted bright white. To the far left a sheer Limestone and Mudstone cliff drops to a blue grey sea.The foreground is dense green vegetation and the sky is pale blue and cloudlessLooking West along the coastline. A blue grey sea laps at a rocky foreshore. In the foreground a sheer cliff with a large cave forms a small promontary, behind which, in the distance, the castellated wall and slipway of St Donat's castle peaks. Further along the land rises to form another steep cliffA low grey brick hexagonal building topped with a concrete roof sits above a beach of sand and rocks. There is a low square entrance to one side and a small square opening in each of the sides

Walked a short section of the #WalesCoastalPath again today, along the cliffs from #NashPoint to #Monknash and back along the #Beach...stunning #Sky

#DailyPhoto #HeritageCoast #Cymru #Wales #Landscape

A wide angle shot of a beach. Dark wet sand leads away from the camera to a pebble bank and then to high sheer limestone cliffs. Large rockfalls can be seen along the length of the cliffs. Above the cliffs the sky is a deep blue, marbled with wispy white clouds

Tackled another short section of the #WalesCoastalPath today, One of my favourites, along the #HeritageCoast from #Monknash to #Southerndown. Some great views of the coast, an old coastguard rocket house and a bluebell wood in full bloom

#DailyPhoto #Cymru #Wales #Landscape #Seascape

The old Coastguard Rocket House at Monknash Beach, built in 1877 and used to store and launch rockets (with ropes attached) out to people on ships which had run aground on the rocks or sandbank.

A small, grey stone building stands on the brow of a grassy hill. It has low parallel side walls and an arched roof. It has a wide rectangular opening at the front and a smaller semi-circular opening at the rear so the deep blue sky that can be seen above, can also be seen straight through the hut.A Bluebell wood. A narrow dirt path leads away from the camera and through an old wood. The space between the trees is packed with lush green undergrowth and pin points of bright blue flowersLooking back to where I came from.

Standing high on a cliff a long stretch of sandy beaches separated by low rocks can be seen. The beaches are backed by high limestone cliffs with numerous rockfalls along it's length. In the distance, over the Bristol Channel, the coast of Somerset is shrouded in a haze. A single transporter ship sits in the channel.Today's destination, Dunraven Bay, looking towards Porthcawl.

A small, slow stream cuts through rough grassland. Further on a high stone wall ends abruptly at a rocky beach, backed by high limestone cliffs. In the distance, over a grey sea, the buildings of Porthcawl glisten in the sun

A Herring Gull Sittinh on a stone wall. It has grey wings, white head and breast and a bright yellow bill. In the background is a grey sea.A female Mallard duck coming in to land on water. It is mostly a speckled brown colour, but its outstretched wings allow us to see the blue and white bars on themA linnet sitting in grass, pictured from behind we can see it's grey head. brown wings and darker tailA honey bee collecting nectar from a bright yellow gorse flower. It has a black head and abdomen, the orange hairs on its thorax are speckled with pollen and its clear wings are folded back against its body

A good 9Km walk today, along the #WalesCoastalPath from #MerthyrMawr village to #Southerndown, Via #OgmoreBySea. A mostly grey day but perfect for #Walking ..... #Beach(es), #Cliffs, a #Castle and #Sheep

#DailyPhoto #Cymru #Wales #Defaidodon #SheepOfMastodon #PhotoMonday

Looking along a flat, sandy beach, A sliver of calm seen can be seen on the left with the buildings of Porthcawl on the other side of it. The sky is thick white cloud with a few small patches of blue sky poking throughLooking East along the Heritage Coast, Near to the camera is rough cracked limestone.IN the distance the coast curves to the right with a series of sheer limestone cliffs topped with lush green grass broken by rocky beaches. The sky is thick grey cloud reflecting in flat sea. In the far distance the cliffs are partially hidden by a hazeA still shallow stream, edged by low grass banks, winds away from the camera. The right bank has a row of blackthorn bushes festooned in small white flowers, punctuated by larger trees bursting into leaf. On the left hand bank is a green field populated by sheep, lambs and larger trees. A white farmhouse and the tower of the ruined Ogmore castle can be seen amongst the trees. The sky is flat greyA young lamb peeks through a gap in Gorse bushes covered in yellow flowers. The lamb's fleece is speckled black making it look a little grubby.

Took advantage of today's sun and blue sky to take a #walk, from Ffont-y-gari, along the #WalesCoastalPath to the old #Aberthaw #LimeWorks and back along the #Beach. Along the way, spotted a #TuftedDuck with a serious case of bed hair and a #MuteSwan which was begging to have the obligatory #reflection photo taken of it.

Looking over a small still lake surrounded by rushes, The water reflects the clouded blue sky. On the far side of the lake is a large partially ruined brick structure. It is split into 3 sections, the nearest is completely rectangular, grey and windowless with 3 small arched entrances at the bottom. A red brick chimney reaches for the sky at the right hand side. The middle building, also grey, has a gable end which obviously supported a sloping roof at some point. 2 rows of 3 rectangular windows can be seen in it. The 3rd building is mostly covered in ivy, but appears to be rectangular and windowless2 ducks swimming on a lake with rushes in the foreground. The left duck is mostly brown with a small tuft of feathers at the back of its head, The Right hand duck is mostly black with a bright white belly. Feathers are sticking up and out from its head in a messy fashionA swan, completely white with the exception of its orange beak and black patch between its beak and eye, is reflected in the slightly rippling water, behind it rushes form a dense walllooking down a beach, the foreground is sand but further on it is covered in large pebbles. To the left are high, yellow sandstone cliffs, topped with grass. To the right a calm receding sea breaks gently on the beach, and above a thick layer of white and grey clouds is punctuated by patches of blue sky

Searching for surf scoter (Melanitta perspicillata) at Llandullas beach bore fruit with a couple of distant sightings, but also an otter put in an appearance which under the clear skies was an added bonus!

Another cold grey day in South #Wales But still nice enough for a short stroll along the #WalesCoastalPath . This section ,the #HeritageCoast , is always relatively quiet..... just as I like it, so.... shh, dont tell anyone how beautiful it is πŸ€«πŸ˜‰

#DailyPhoto #Cymru

A view down the coastline, high vertical cliffs with a mixture of sandy and rocky beach below. The sky and sea are grey but calm. The picture is taken over a stone wall, the top of which can be seen out of focus, in the foreground of the picture
