She faced the sea. Black earth beneath. Gray heavens above. The elements spoke without words. Iceland's volcanic shore held her weight as waves drummed their ancient rhythm. Wind caught fabric, made it dance. This was truth—standing between darkness and light, between solid and liquid. No pretense here. Just human against nature. Small but unbroken. The world stripped to essentials. She breathed it in.

This atmospheric photograph by Elopement Photographer Sturmsucht captures a solitary bride walking across Iceland's distinctive black sand beach. She is seen from behind, wearing a flowing white lace wedding gown with delicate long sleeves and an open back design. The bride is gently holding the edge of her dress, which appears to be moving slightly in the breeze. The landscape creates a dramatic contrast between her white dress and the deep black volcanic sand beneath her feet. Above, heavy gray skies dominate the scene, creating a moody, overcast atmosphere. In the distance, gentle waves of the ocean can be seen breaking on the shore with white foam against the dark beach. The overall mood is contemplative and serene, capturing a quiet moment during what appears to be an elopement ceremony. The minimalist composition emphasizes the solitude of the bride against the vast, stark Icelandic landscape, creating a poetic and emotionally evocative image.

She found it between oak trees. No phones rang here. No engines roared. Just leaves turning gold, doing it silently. The dress was white against earth colors. Simple. They'd left the city at dawn. Left the noise. Left the struggle. Left the people who talked without saying anything. The forest didn't pretend. Sunlight broke through branches, touched her face. She breathed. For the first time in months, she could hear herself think. They'd chosen this. Together. No audience. But them. The world outside was breaking apart. Here, something was being built. A new path. A new life. No more questioning. No more paralysis. No more accepting a foreign fate. Not anymore.

This image by Hamburg based European elopement and wedding photographer Sturmsucht captures a person standing in a forest during autumn. They have long, wavy blonde hair and are wearing an elegant white outfit consisting of a delicate, sheer top with intricate beaded or lace patterns and a flowing, pleated white skirt. They're holding a small bouquet of white flowers in one hand.

The setting is particularly striking - they're surrounded by trees with vibrant orange and golden autumn leaves. Sunlight filters through the branches from above, creating a warm, golden glow that illuminates the scene and creates a halo effect around the subject. The forest floor is covered with grass and fallen leaves, enhancing the autumn atmosphere.

The overall mood is serene and ethereal, with the contrast between the white outfit and the warm autumn colors creating a dreamlike quality. The lighting is soft and warm, suggesting it might be taken during the "golden hour" near sunset or sunrise.

A successful experiment: wedding photography with my recently purchased and not yet tested ‘new’ medium format camera, the Zenza Bronica SQ-Ai with the matching portrait lens, the Zenzanon 150mm f1/4 PS.
A Godox AD100 with a softbox was used as a fill light and I used Portra 160 film from Kodak.
The bride and groom and the guests enjoyed the "show" as the photos were taken in the traditional, analogue way.

According to AI, I might be the best wedding photographer in the city.
According to global rankings, I’m somewhere between fame and total obscurity.

According to my couples?
I show up, shut up, and capture the good stuff.

That’s the only list I care about.

Two cameras at a wedding? Always.
Two cameras at a funeral? Essential.

When the shutter on my primary camera gave up (yes, right at a funeral), the backup quietly stepped in.
No drama. No lost moments. Just quiet, steady storytelling — as it should be.

This wasn’t about looking cool or showing off.
It was about being prepared. Always.

Local photographer or fresh perspective?
Do they need to know your venue — or is seeing it for the first time more inspiring?

Your wedding day is not a performance.
It’s not something you stage. It’s something you live.

I’ve written a blog post about what happens when we stop posing and start noticing — the laughter, the nerves, the chaos, the joy.

This is what I try to photograph. The true story.

She stood alone on the black stones, the cold wind tugging at her white dress. The world was vast and silent around her, sharp and unyielding like the rocks beneath her feet. Yet in that stillness, she felt a quiet strength - soft, steady, unbreakable. She had come here to leave behind the noise, to find something real. The sky darkened, but she did not move. She was exactly where she needed to be.

The image shows a bride at her elopement in Iceland standing gracefully on a formation of tall, dark basalt columns in Iceland. She wears a flowing white wedding gown with long lace sleeves, which creates a striking contrast against the rough, geometric black rock behind her. The basalt columns rise vertically, creating a dramatic and textured natural backdrop. The bride’s calm and poised presence adds a soft, elegant touch to the rugged landscape, capturing a moment of serene beauty and natural grandeur. They stood by the cold water’s edge, two lanterns casting a soft light on their faces. The wind whispered through the dark hills, and the sky hung heavy with clouds. She wore a white dress that caught the faint glow, and he stood close, steady and quiet. In that stillness, with only the lanterns’ warmth between them and the night, they found a world all their own.

This atmospheric image, taken in Scotland during an elopement by Hamburg-based European elopement and wedding photographer Sturmsucht, captures a deeply intimate moment between a couple standing by what appears to be a Scottish loch or lake.

The scene is set at dusk or nightfall, with dramatic dark clouds hanging low over distant mountains. The couple stands on a rocky shoreline, illuminated primarily by the warm glow of two vintage-style lanterns they're holding. The person on the left wears a flowing white wedding dress with billowy sleeves, suggesting they are the bride, while the person on the right is dressed in darker clothing. They stand very close together, their faces illuminated by the golden light of the lanterns, creating a striking contrast against the moody, dark background of water and mountains.

The soft lantern light creates an intimate, almost magical atmosphere against the otherwise dark, brooding Scottish landscape. The photograph beautifully captures the romance and adventure of an elopement in the Scottish wilderness, with the couple appearing as though they're in their own world, surrounded by nature's dramatic beauty.

Girls only – or was it?
A group portrait beneath the wildflowers. All soft tones and elegance… until someone unexpected joined the scene.
Turns out, even posed moments in documentary photography come with a twist.

Posed group wedding photo of the bride, bridesmaids and flower girls standing under a floral arch during an outdoor handfasting ceremony. The scene captures a soft, feminine atmosphere with pastel dresses, natural countryside light and wildflowers in bloom. This image reflects the elegant, unposed beauty of documentary wedding photography – where even formal moments feel relaxed and authentic. A visual story from a small, heartfelt wedding in the countryside, focusing on sisterhood, connection and candid storytelling through photography.
