A big article in the #CascadiaDaily about the recent Whatcom County charter review meeting about #RankedChoiceVoting. It was really a fascinating meeting with four invited guests who are #RCV experts from around the country. Well worth watching the video of the meeting (linked at the end of the article) cascadiadaily.com/2025/may/14/

This is a reminder that talking about Cute Winter Boots online doesn’t change the world. To do that, you have to meet with people in your neighborhood, city, community. You have to help people where they are, not just give them likes.

And there’s only so much you should do over public broadcast communications.

(If you’re near the #Skagit, #Whatcom or #IslandCounty areas, I may be reaching out if you don’t ping me first.)

I dug into my archives and found this map I made of 2016 election results aggregated by the (then) new Whatcom County council districts introduced in 2017. Gives a rough sense of the political alignment in our small county here in the northwest corner of Washington State.

I need to update this map with new data from all the elections since 2016, obviously, but it's a hassle to work with the precinct level results. Soon.

A map I made showing the five county council districts in Whatcom County, Washington. Text on each district shows the percentage of the Trump vote in 2016. They are colored various shades of blue or red based on the percentage of votes for Trump.

District 5 (called "Coastal") was 41% for Trump, and is light blue. It covers Blaine, Ferndale, and the Lummi reservation.

District 4 (called "Farmlands") was 57% for Trump, and is light pink. It covers Lynden, Everson, Sumas, and the Cordata neighborhood of Bellingham.

District 3 (called "Foothills") was 40% for Trump, and is light blue. It covers the entire eastern part of the county, including Lake Whatcom and Sudden Valley.

District 2 ("North Bellingham") was 21% for Trump and is a darker blue.

District 1 ("South Bellingham") was 15% for Trump and is the darkest shade of blue.

Welcome to the Bellingham Plan Engagement Hub

The City of Bellingham is working on the Bellingham Plan. The plan addresses important topics, such as housing, transportation, and climate resilience, and will guide development, capital investments, city programs, and other actions for the next 20 years.

The key to the Bellingham Plan is community feedback. We want to know how you want us to plan for Bellingham’s future. You'll find all the ways to provide feedback digitally and in person here. Current input boxes to city:
1) Upper left: Your Bellingham Story — what you love & what you hope for.
2) Upper right: Safety — What’s safety mean for you in Bellingham?
3) Lower left: Neighborhood Considerations — how do we retain livable & vibrant neighborhoods?
4) Lower right: Project Priorities — a map for you to locate changes needed

With today's sideways rain & bending fir trees, I'm thinking we should have a similar bike ride event into the wind as this Dutch race on single speed bikes. 💨

Look, Ma! We’re on a bunch of stations this weekend / week!! 🙌🏻

Tune in via your radio dial if you're in (KBFG 107.3 North Seattle), (Koys-Lpfm), County (102.5 KAVZ), or (KOSW-FM) ...

... or from anywhere in the world via those stations website streaming.

@hilljam and I will be tuning in ... let's bop along simultaneously from our various locations like the kids in the 1990's hit film That Thing You Do, c'mon c'mon it'll be fun 🤓

This is an album cover for a record by Shannon Curtis called Good to Me. It features a wreath of flowers as well as signs of chaos like a world on fire and a dark vortex.
