Oh, fuck off
Removed a bunch of hardware on the VM and installation seems to be progressing further
I thought #VirtManager was smarter than this.
no dice with Windows 2000
Heute genau vor 25 Jahren erschien #Windows 2000 (NT 5.0). Mit der Grundstein für alle nachfolgenden Windows Versionen wie #XP, #Vista, #Windows7, etc.

#Win2K #W2K #Millenium #WindowsNT
lol windows 2k would run on this:
133 MHz or higher Pentium-compatible CPU.
64 megabytes (MB) of RAM recommended minimum; more memory generally improves responsiveness.
2 GB hard disk with a minimum of 650 MB of free space.
Windows 2000 Professional supports single and dual CPU systems.
it was 32-bit, 3y later w2k3 had 64-bit and I ran that on workstations at work around 2004/2005 and it was also competent but not as fun as win2k.
Ruminating on a thread from @malcircuit some time this week about how tech companies can't let things be done and thread from @HeavenlyPossum about how instantpot is dead because they couldn't grow exponentially forever and then a video about turn of the millenium computing from Cathode Ray Dude…

There have been a few points where I felt computers were like fun enough and just sort of worked and weren't shit up and down and then of course a tech company needed to make line go up and here we are.
But for me those times were like BeOS around 1997/1998, Windows 2K from about 1999-2005 (we had them warez beta copies in college) and OSX from about 2011-2014.

MacOS is my daily driver these days and I'm dreading the next forced upgrade because this version has been lousy. I've got a linux backup computer setup at this point but that's necessity and not particularly for fun or even having an expectation of good functioning.
If I have have a point to all that I guess it's I've seen cycles of very nice software that gets fucked up and fails to stay nice or gets obsoleted because of lack of updates and it's sad because I could happily be using a security updated version of windows 2K today and it would be as useful and fast as it was then on absolute garbage hardware by today's standards.

As an aside, I was reminded of how little power desktop computers used to draw by CRD's video. Like a modern gaming rig can draw 1KW, wtf. You can play doom on a fuckin' pregnancy test. Photorealism has played us for fools.
Updating my websites.
2 of Unofficial Windows Update Services will make your Vintage PC look Nicer.

I just had a sudden but very strong memory of the time I upgraded my #win98 machine (which was upgraded from #Win95) to #Win2K. That was a special #os for me. It was neat because for the first time it seemed like #windows might be capable of stability and usefulness. I really liked the trash icon.
Funny enough, years later, I downgraded a server from w2k to w95 (as a joke/dare), and hosted a swath of early web2.0 stuff on it via Apache.
Good times.
#blackwingcat is still going strong keeping #windows 2000 supported. A saint in the community

@TechNews When support for #Win2K ended I moved to #Linux and when 10 is gone I'll do it again because 11 is DOA as far as I'm concerned.
And yes I do regret playing footsie with #Microsoft just for the #Videogames I'm not perfect okay
