My white socks aren't anymore.

Bottled the 2024 Pinot.

A steel wine tank on its side, the remains of red wine fermentation and aging with oak cubes flow out, onto deck stairs, and presumably onto the poster's previously white socks.

I bought some frozen grape juice concentrate so I could make a gallon of wine, then left them on the counter to thaw and forgot about them for a few days. Checking today and one of the cans is puffed up w/ definite alcohol scent when opened. Looks like I got wild ferment by accident? Never had that happen before... I'm going to just mix the rest of the must up without pitching any yeast and see if it'll keep going!

I didn't expect to be pressing the beer off the Moscato pomace this quickly, but it seemed like primary fermentation had slowed way down already. I prefer to press these pomace beers while it's still fermenting so that the active yeast can take up oxygen introduced by the pressing.

Right, haven't missed the Suttons sale... but cutting it close...

Trying to decide on two grape varieties for the greenhouse... currently it's maybe Boskoop Glory and Cabernet Sauvignon. Main motivation is winemaking, but the Boskoop is supposedly pretty good as a dual-purpose.

Anyone got any experience/recommendations for UK-growing of red grapes for wine-making from this range: suttons.co.uk/vegetable-fruit-

Tariffs make sour grapes for American winemakers

Intermediate Goods: Many of the things that winemakers regularly buy often come from abroad. Three notable examples: glass bottles, corks and barrels (which are used to age wine and refine its flavor).

Day 20 💰💰🏭🏦🛢️☢️🕍⛪️🙏🔥

“spin-off of the US-based #CPAC – short for Conservative Political Action Conference – the #Sydney-based outfit described itself as a “values-based” organisation that “espouses the best of #Howard, #Reagan and #Thatcher while exploring new ideas and themes for the coming generations”.

Guests at the August event included #OneNation senator Pauline Hanson, Michelle Pearse, the CEO of the #AustralianChristianLobby, and broadcaster and soon-to-be alleged sex offender, #AlanJones.

Overseas talent included Jay Aeba, chairman of the Japanese Conservative Union and Heather Wilson, mother of six and co-founder of #GiveSendGo, a #Christian #crowdfunding network which has helped raise money for #NeoNazis and #AntiVaxxers

“Then, in 2018, investment banker and long-time #ClimateConspiracist Maurice Newman, billionaire storage king Sam Kennard, and David Adler, of the #FarRight Australian Jewish Association (AJA), got together to form #AdvanceAustralia. Money was no problem: #HedgeFund manager and #Liberal Party donor Simon Fenwick tipped in $190,000; a further $400,000 came from Sydney #Establishment couple Rodney and Judith O’Neil, and the Taylor #winemaking family.

Advance pitched itself as a champion of the #SilentMajority#HowardsBattlers 2.0. But its real concerns were better expressed by another early backer, #hotelier James Power, who was then engaged in a battle to prevent women from becoming members of #Brisbane’s #Tattersall’s Club.”

If you noticed a darker turn to the election this week, here’s a good explanation of the WHY and HOW. Also I see Tony 🧅 got a new job.

The California Gewürztraminer has been bottled on Day 36! 22 liters total counting 2.5 liters of cloudy lees I'll let clear up again.

A photo showing a 1.5 liter bottle of wine on a porch railing. It is a white wine. There's lawn, grass, weeds, shrubs, trees, wild things, water, and more in the background.

Transferred the California Gewurztraminer wine to a carboy for degassing and clearing. It is day 22. It was still fermenting slowly and it was about 1.001 a week ago and wasn't bubbling at all yesterday and measured 0.996 today. It gets the chitosan and reserves tomorrow.

A cropped photo showing a hydrometer in wine. It reads 0.996. The wine is clear and amber looking in the bucket. A photo showing the wine after being transferred to a glass carboy and degassed by stirring. The top has a stopper in it with a stirring rod passing through it. The stirrer is driven by a drill motor. The top of the wine is frothy from the process.

The gore from the beginning of pressing the blackberry wine.

A photo of a wine press with a white tray and deep dark red blackberry wine pouring over it. Looks like blood...

Grapes arrived for the first attempt at #Winemaking (not counting the recent decently successful Sake brewing). Day 2, the colour is already so good. Fingers crossed. It's gonna be a long learning journey. #HomeBrewing
