I think the key mistake writers make when trying to emulate Douglas Adams is that they try to emulate Douglas Adams himself and not Wodehouse, who Adams channelled gloriously, but in spaaace.

My Xmas book haul.

Already started re-reading Foundation. I loved it when I read it in college. I do remember that it’s mostly men talking about politics, philosophy, and psychology. Which is absolutely true. So I understand why the TV series made changes to adapt it.

I absolutely love both versions. The book definitely needed more women though.

I agree. “Right Ho, Jeeves” is tremendously quotable. The writing is simply sublime. His description of the dinner where all the angry, fighting couples independently decide to push away their food untasted never fails to entertain.

So into #CainsJawbone, although only seven pages in. I can see the utility of a spreadsheet. I even dreamed I had a voice chat with a friend who began reading it earlier this month.

I love my #UK pen pals but I dearly wish at least one of them knew about this book years earlier and told me, and not left me to wade deep into a #Wodehouse novel to learn about #Torquemada.
