It's #WorldHeritageDay!
The caves and #IceAge art of the Swabian Jura became #UNESCO World Heritage in 2017.
Mankind's earliest portable art was found in those caves, e.g. the marvellous figure of the #lion man, carved in mammoth ivory some 40,000 years ago
Found in the Hohlenstein-Stadel cave.

Photograph of the Löwenmensch (Lion-man) figurine, a sculpture carved from mammoth ivory. The figure stands upright with a humanoid body and a lion-like head, showing a blend of human and animal features. The surface is weathered and fragmented, with visible cracks and missing sections. It is displayed in a museum setting, with a blurred, textured background resembling stone or cave walls.

Great news this morning, on World Heritage Day, that Dunsink Observatory and Birr Castle Demesne have been added to Ireland’s Tentative List of UNESCO World Heritage Properties. Read more on dias.ie/?p=37557 #WorldHeritageDay

It's #WorldHeritageDay! In 2017 caves from the #IceAge on the Swabian Jura became UNESCO World Heritage Site. Humanity's earliest portable art was found in those caves. The tiny (3.7 cm) but amazing figure of a woolly mammoth carved in mammoth ivory some 40,000 years ago was discovered at the Vogelherd cave.
