A medium, eye-level shot featuring a light brown deer and its fawn, standing close together, alerted against a backdrop of dense, tall green grass and evergreen trees. The adult deer, positioned slightly forward, has large ears and a slender neck, looking directly at the viewer. The fawn stands slightly behind and to the left of the adult. Foreground foliage, slightly out of focus creates a soft, veiled visual effect at the bottom of the image.

I grow these in a pot & let the new growth drape down. I got it last year & it has tripled in size.
Lysimachia congestiflora, known as golden globes #loosestrife or #CreepingJenny.

Native edible aquatic plant. American white water lilies at Prospect Lake in the Highlands. Nymphaea odorata. These are the only native water lilies in this area of the world. Other water lilies you see are invasive introduced species.
Beavers & muskrats like eating their stems.
Their seeds, flowers & rhizomes can all be eaten raw or cooked. Roots can be boiled to create a medicinal liquid to treat sore throats (gargle it) & for diarrhea (drink it). Many Indigenous peoples used the rhizomes to treat coughs/colds & crushed stems can be put on teeth to treat toothaches.

The main highlight of the Glendale trails is this massive pond. It attracts many different bird species that choose this sanctuary to live, mate, nest & raise their young at. You'll always see eagles flying above & ravens calling, when you walk the trails here.

The tiny white dot you see atop a mountain in the background is the astronomical centre of the universe here & it hosts astronomy related events at certain times of the year.

Glendale park has multiuse trails - most are suitable for people with limited mobility(very little elevation grade & paths are wide enough), strollers friendly, bicycles friendly(go slow!), kids & equestrians use it often too. The trails border along rural private & public greenspace/forested lands. This side trail is the Dog Walker's Loop & winds through the forest - fab to take your dog friends there.
The main trail connects to the Saanich trails system which also connects to the Galloping Goose trail system.

A trail sign stands at a forest path intersection. The sign reads "Dog Walker's Loop" with an upward arrow and "East-West Regional Trail" with a left-pointing arrow. Above the left arrow are circular symbols—a dog with a leash, and a horse crossed out, indicating no horse riding. The path is dirt, lined with dense green foliage. Sunshine filters through the trees.

To encourage Glendale park visitors to create art instead of vandalizing a covered seating area, chalkboards were installed inside & a small bucket of chalks are provided. This is also used for educational programs throughout the year.
The upper trail spans across to Layritz Park. The lower trail takes you to estuary viewpoint & another footpath winds through the small forest beside the big field & the estuary below(not seen in photo).

A weathered, small shelter with a bench sits in a field of tall green grass and wildflowers, framed by trees and a brilliant blue sky filled with cirrus clouds. The shelter is constructed of wood and metal, adorned with faded green paint and graffiti is visible on the inside walls. The surrounding landscape includes a gentle hill covered with lush foliage and scattered trees.

#FootpathFriday
The main #NatureTrail at Glendale near Camosun College Interurban campus, leading to the estuary viewpoint spot. It crosses a small #footbridge. There is also viewing platform with a spotting scope for park visitors to enjoy - it's beside the parking lot & accessed by a small footpath.

A winding gravel path leads through a dense, green forest. Overhanging branches form a natural canopy over the path. Small wooden bridge in the middle of the path which fades into the sunlight in the distance. The scene is illuminated by dappled sunlight filtering through the lush foliage of trees and undergrowth.

I'm eagerly waiting for a nice #thimbleberry patch, not far from my place, to ripen up. #Thimbleberries are my fave #WildBerries & I love eating them every Summer.
Their big, soft, velvety leaves can be used as natural tissues. One of our #NativePlants that provides #food to humans & wildlife. Found in most forest areas across PNW regions.

Every Summer, this deep pink rugosa rose tree delights my eyes & nose. Pretty roses with a lovely, perfurmey scent. It is bursting with blooms now 😍
