Colquitz River. In Summer.
As seen from the footbridge in Cuthbert Holmes, a Saanich municipal park. Colquitz Creek/River is an important local salmon bearing waterway. It is part of a protected watershed system that includes Craigflower Creek. Both feed out into Portage Inlet & the Gorge Waterway.

A serene river flows through a lush landscape, bordered by dense trees & greenery. The water reflects the surrounding foliage, creating a tranquil scene. A large branch extends over the river, partially submerged in the water, while patches of grass & plants line the riverbank, contributing to the natural beauty of the environment.

During the dark wet winters in still bloom, a ghostly note echoing from tree to tree. The quietest music to be heard. #キノコ

A macro photo of a tiny pink-beige translucent mushroom with a long curvy stem. It's an upshot so the fragile white gills are visible, like spokes of a parasol. The tree trunk and forest behind it is very dark, virtually black. The mushroom is dimly lit, almost ethereal.

The are coming up in the forest. They glitter in the dappled light. I kneel, prostrate myself before them. To gaze at their gorgeous lips. To behold their mottled depths. This is a kind of prayer.

A detail close-up photo of a pale pink orchid which has a darker mottled depth inside their lower parts. The long slender pointed petals on the top, four of them, form a kind of nimbus at the top. One petal juts forward to cover the top of the lower lip. This petal is foreshortened in the photo. The lower lip of the flower is more complex with pale frills visible, and mottled dots. They look alien and gorgeous.

Two of my favourite plants! 💚😍 To be honest I have so many "favourite plants" it could be said I love them all deeply. Such textures, shapes, hues and lines. Every plant is art-full and full of spirit. Vibrant. Generous. An integral part of habitats and bi(h)omes. Regenerative, and nourishing to the heart, mind, and sometimes belly. How I love thee....

Photo of large wide skunk cabbage leaves framing a brown gap (mud in the background). In the gap, and in the centre of the photo image are two young horsetail stems growing, with their spokes of short green needles circling the slender stems in intervals. A very geometrically interesting-looking plant. The greens are vivid and bright. The skunk cabbage leaves have long veins that are pale yellow. Vibrant spring vibe.

Spring flowers! They bloom in intervals though some of them overlap and these small measures of time fill me with anticipation and gratitude. This was the first time in I've happened upon . They are my newest love. I fall in love so easily... But as Dana says, What's not to love? 😍

A close up photo of a small, low-growing wildflower from the iris family. Six oval bright fuscia petals overlap a little at the centre. The flower is backlit so light glows through the petals which gleam/sparkle with a kind of iridescence. Each petal has slightly darker lines running toward the centre. The stamens are long with yellow anther balls of pollen. The single flower grows on a thin green stem that looks a little like stiff grass. The flower is growing out of a bed of sparse-growing moss. They create a feeling for me like a gasp of delight. Wonder that there is such colour like this.

Mosses have grown on this good Earth for over 400 million years.... Able to withstand drought & freezing, they can survive & thrive in extreme habitats from mountaintops to deserts. Beloved in traditional Japanese gardens I love my mossy friends wherever I go, wandering through forests, staring at the ground, or gazing up at the branches of gnarly trees, moss is there, doing their good work. They grow in the cities too. Look for moss. You will find them.

A close up photo of star-shaped bright apple-green moss growing closely together between two round metal pipes of a cattle guard. Thus, two bands of a reddish brown pipe, specked with yellow crust lichen, frame the vertical lengths of the photo on the right and the left side.

The more you seek out beauty the more you will find it. In the humblest places, in subtle ways. Remarkable.

The swallows have flown away signalling the change in season. Last week I heard the first sweet sad notes of the Varied Thrush. The sun is later to rise, earlier to set. Somehow I never caught up to Summer who was always running ahead of me, like an older sister. Now is the time to note the change in light. The quiet beat of the heart.

Photo of a dandelion type seed head backlit by the late day sun. The white fluff is lit up and also refracting light into colours. There’s also concentric ring effect of the seed structure and light. The background is quite dark—there’s a forest.

We went to see the river to check on water levels and see if the fish were okay... It was a relief to see that water still flowed and babies swimming among the rocks. There's a forecast for rain this coming week. May we all be blessed. Especially the salmon people.

Close photo of two young salmon fry swimming above rough river rocks. The water is clear so you cant even see anything of it. The salmon fry have very big eyes for their size. Their fins are a dirty orange hue. They have pale grey oval dots marks that dot their side from gill to nearly their tail.

手のひら ベビー…
Palm of hand baby…

A close up photo of a very small lizard baby in the palm of my hand. The lizard is a grey-ish colour with a hint of green, with two thin yellow lines along their side, sandwiching a thicker band of black. They have long skinny toes.

It's hot & dry in . It feels early this year.... The ephemeral ponds have dried up, seeds are rattling in their pods. When the cool wet forest friends come seeking a moist spot in your flowerbeds it's time to be extra careful about fire. was perched on my stick fence when I came home from work. I sang them a little song. Offered some water. Then left them alone. In the morning they were gone. #かえる #蛙 #frosch

Photo of a very small bright green tree from perched on a horizontal cedar stick, leaning against the upright post stick of a homey fence. The sticks are auburn brown so the green of the frog stands out in contrast. Behind the frog is light grey-blue aluminum cladding. The frog is slightly downward facing. Along with the black stripe that slants downward across the eye, they look a little sad, albeit very still.

Waiting for the moment. The moment arrives. Gladness blooms inside my chest. The garden in my heart.

A blooming stem of delphiniums, the flowers dark indigo. A copper coloured hummingbird hovers in front of the flowers, their long beak slightly raised, their upright wings a blur of motion. Their little short feet dangle beneath their body. The background is large lime green and pale blue blotches.

Every single day. Someone marvellous crosses my path. And I am swept away.... The could pass for a bumble bee. But take a longer look, and their gorgeous features begin to reveal themselves. Smitten.

A close-up photo of a daytime moth whose bottom half looks like a bumble bee-- pale yellow and black-striped. Their top half is a kind of olive-gold furriness. They have black thick antennae and a long proboscis which they use to soak up nectar. They are landed upon bright purple flowers. Their wings, looking more like a bee's wings, are a transparent blur. They are a bee mimic to avoid predation. The background, mostly black, provides a great contrast with the bright colours.

The sweet perfume sets me dreaming. loves this Earth so much.
#野花

Photo of wild roses-- the flowers are in a range of pale pinks with bright dark yellow centres. The flowers are almost evenly spaced in the frame. There are brown-red stems intermittently visible that are vertical lines. The leaves are a darker green, rather pointy, thus a contrast to the flower petals which are more rounded. The flowers are almost lit up bright. They look happy.

The peacocks of the family the is the most colourful of the sky acrobats. Under the right glancing light their wings bright up with not just purple and greens but many hues of blues... They also remind me a little of Pingu's little sister, Pinga... Noot! Noot!

A close photo of a swallow perched on a curved roof tile. The tile is a greyish-pink. The swallow has a brilliant dark green cap and cape and upper back. Their wings sweeps out beyond their short tail. Their lower back is a dark violet. Their face and chest is pure white. Their beak is small, short and black. They are an athletic looking bird. Very short legs. I don't know that they ever really do a lot of walking.

Is it ever too late to post for ? 😍 Before this heat snap hit I was out on a with my son, and spotted these bright lights on the soft moss… How many times can my breath catch in this lifetime?

- [ ] Two little brown mushrooms with slender brown stems standing tall from a downward slant of thick green moss. The caps, shaped like parasols, are backlit so that the lines of the gills stand out distinctly. One is twice as tall as the other. They look elegant and a little magical. In the background a strand of cedar is a blurry series of pale dots, hanging horizontally out of the moss slope and against a dark green-black background. A contrast of light and dark.
