Fell down a rabbit hole after reading the following blog post regarding X Windows not immediately, having X terminals, which led me to a Wikipedia post linked from there on X terminals, which then led me to the Wikipedia page on Blit, which then led me to the Wikipedia page on SDF, finally leading me to the result of typing "linux" on the command shell on SDF...

@matt The stipple was great when first configuring LCD displays. It would be instantly clear whether you got the resolution correct or not (Moiré & other artifacts or no). I never found another pattern that worked so well for that. When I did IT circa 2010 I had a little 4x4 .png of it I'd carry around on thumb drive to set the background to even on Windows computers to verify the resolution. #XWindowSystem #X11

I want to connect an external monitor to my Surface Go laptop. Until now I used a script that turned off the internal screen. I'm on the X Window System and use i3 (if this matters in any way).

I want to setup xrandr so that
- both screens are turned on at the same time
- both screens use their native (and differing) resolution?

I'm not sure whether there even is a solution to the problem. Is there a reason inherent to X that would make it impossible to do this?

Turns out I can hashtag the real new logo recently given to #Twitter without having to resort to #X.

Sometimes I really love the hashtag system on #Hubzilla that lets me put all kinds of characters into hashtags.

Still, I'm waiting for #ElonMusk to sue the #XorgFoundation, maintainer of the display manager #Xorg that won't fully replace #Wayland for years to come, over the name, the logo and the domain x.org. The X.org Foundation has been around for almost 20 years under that name, and their logo is that of the #XWindowSystem which is almost 30 years old.

May #Musk go broke over pumping billions into his lawyers trying to fight against #PriorArt before he makes himself the laughing stock of the Internet even more trying to buy out a non-profit foundation in a hostile takeover.

Hi @XOrgFoundation, as literal prior art, you should maybe quickly put together an app called “X” and upload it to the respective app stores, just to annoy a certain someone… 😉

It needn’t do anything other than just show an image of xeyes 👀 (or perhaps actually run xeyes, if you can be bothered with the coding effort)…
