For some reason, #xorg on one of my work laptops (running #HardenedBSD) seems to just present a black screen when starting #i3wm.
I can switch back to a pty, kill xorg, and continue life in the command-line.
But it sure would be nice to use this laptop as more than just another VM host I ssh into. It's my primary work laptop, so I need to do primary work laptop things.

@evgandr the packages are not in FreeBSD, they are in the ports collection.
With regard to an organisation such as X11Libre, this is probably a very important distinction.

The experience with Oracle VirtualBox, and with QEMU (using Virtual Machine Manager), was quite different.

Does anyone know how to install all of the #screensavers in xscreensavers?
My Ubuntu 22.04 laptop is starting to have severe screen burn-in, so I installed xscreensaver tonight. Only about 20 of the default screensavers are installed, but there doesn't seem to be a way to get the rest to activate.
I did something risky, and briefly ran Nautilus as root (I made sure to escape my sudo session quickly) and copied all of the XML files from the latest version directly to the usr/share data path, with the rest of the XML files. However, this appears to do nothing, as it is missing binary data.

(2/2) โฆI wanna know how often โpointer stickโ (similar to #TrackPoint) is hit on my #HHKB Studio by accident while typing quickly. Catching my error rate will be hard across applications, but perhaps I could measure how often the stick moves pointer a tiny bit after a flurry of typing, which would of course be followed by a tiny but measurable stop in typing (& often backspace presses). I'm familiar w/ `xev` on #Xorg as a method to collect the data, but how hard would it be to analyze?

So sehr ich #Linux liebe, so sehr hasse ich es manchmal.
X11 wird sukzessive mit Wayland ersetzt, wobei dieses "sukzessive" gerade recht schnell geht.
Fรผr den Alltag hab ich damit weniger bis keine Probleme, aber mit der Teleskopsteuerung via RasPi 5 und VNC ist das einfach be๐ฉ .
Wir haben mittlerweile 2026 und einen Remote-Desktop einzurichten ist entweder sehr mรผhsam (VNC unter X11) eine Wissenschaft (RDP) oder [fast?] unmรถglich (VNC unter Wayland) - zumindest fรผr nicht-Systemadmins.
Und so werden weiter vieeeeele Stunden vergehen bis ich das endlich halbwegs brauchbar hinbekomme. ๐ซฉ

I was just thinking. If there's anything good to take from the existence of XLibre, it's that it's keeping the fascists in one place and has allowed for X.Org to have a big influx in proper development.
I hope to see X.Org outlive XLibre and still be useful for those who need it well into the future. If nothing else, though, there's also Wayback, which I'm a bit curious about :)
Or maybe some madla{d,ss} will revive the W window system predating X.
