This chamber piece, "Of the Hummingbirds", is inspired by the works of Olivier Messiaen and Dmitri Shostakovich, as well as Hilda Conkling's poem "Humming-Bird”. Flute (or piccolo, as heard in this demo) and xylophone demonstrate the elusive, mysterious, and energetic qualities of the hummingbird.

A thing that I stumbled across recently: a short introduction to the amadinda. This Ugandan #xylophone is a great example of communal #music making, as one #instrument is played by 2 to 5 people. The repertoire is based on interlocking patterns and melodies emerge according to the gestalt principle, which is basically that your brain begins to pick out a melody from a stream of notes. #Ethnomusicology #WorldMusic
