OK man kann das alles extern anders verkabeln. Aber man kann auch einfach von der PKT zur DATA IN/OUT Buchse einen 10uF Kondensator legen. 😉 Ist mir gerade so auf der Couch eingefallen. Kurzer blick ins Technical Suplement hat bestätigt, dass das gehen müsste. PTT und Empfang gingen ja auch vorher schon der 2. Pin der DATA Buchse ist übrigens über einen 4.7k Widerstand auch schon parallel mit dem 1200 Bd Pin der PKT Buchse.

I was looking for a new compact VHF/UHF FM HT now for some time but I'm really underwhelmed with the offers of the established #hamradio OEMs. Looking at my 20+ years old #Yaesu VX5 it's unbelievable what package they offered at this time. Tri-Band (6m, 2m, 70cm) with wide Band (HF to 1GHz, including Airband) receive and this in a really solid and almost waterproof housing. Why can't you build something like this anymore?

@OE1RFC Thanks for sharing pictures and your experience with this successful repair. Have 2 -DR and 1 -G amongst the family radios, and hope all keep working for many years to come. Your bravery inspires me to “just open it up and dig in” should one fail here as well. Thanks & 73.

Some time ago this Yaesu VX8 of a friend of mine died while transmitting, no display, no LEDs, no charging light.

Last week I took it apart to see if it could be fixed.
I traced the voltage rails in the service manual, the micro controller voltage was completely dead. I suspected the LDO regulator, but it turned out to be a reverse protection diode. I don't have SMD diodes, but there was enough space to fit a similar DO diode 🎉
The VX8 is still a great radio, I also have one

The radio is on and in scanning mode, with a few fingers carefully holding SMD pliers to short two vias connected to the broken diode at the bottom left of the PCB .

As noted by @DG1JAN, Yaesu decided to update the look of their website for the first time in like 20 years lol...

Sadly, this has left the Owner's Corner of their site about 90% broken. It was the only useful part of their site to me, so I hope they get their (&*@# act together and fix it ASAP.

The #Yaesu #FTX1 is looking better and better as a ship radio over my Icom 7100. The only big omission for my operating is the loss of a data port for external modems/TNC's. There might be a microphone port/speaker option, but RX out can easily do damage to things. I much prefer line level audio. I don't use TNC's at sea anymore, so the issue isn't a deal breaker.

Banging my head trying to get a WIRES-X PDN node to allow connections to C4FM rooms. I get the room list, but the “Connect” option is grayed out, as is the Port Check button. I think it may be a Windows 11 firewall issue.

Just finished building my #CW practice kit. Also nicely turns into my #POTA / #SOTA travel kit for CW. I designed the cases for the BaMaTech - BaMaKeY TP-III and the HAMCUBE Mini so that they provide more ergonomics and comfort while in use.
