Elevated levels of iodine-129 -- an isotope commonly used as an indicator of nuclear activity -- has been detected in seawater samples from the West Philippine Sea (WPS). A team from UP MSI's Geological Oceanography Laboratory and the University of Tokyo has traced the likely source of the isotope to the Yellow Sea.

Qingdao is home to North Sea Fleet.
Chinese SSBN fleet does not support operational deployment as deterrent so sub base is built to withstand a nuclear #FirstStrike and have some hope of #SecondStrike in retaliation
Chinese SSBN can carry and fire JL-1 missiles while submerged but it is unclear if it has fit JL-2s.
