#YesToTheVoice

I have already voted #YesToTheVoice, but may swing past what I hope will be the local polling place tomorrow anyway. #PostStrokeDiet be damned, I want a #DemocracySausage!

The best book i have ever read on Indigenous life and culture.

As we approach the referendum it strikes me that Australians of settler heritage who #VoteNo are STILL thinking "their Christian task is to steal the pillow of the living race".

We must have a #voteyestovoice

@web_goddess I have been hoping for a similar outcome for the Australian #Voice referendum as for the gay marriage plebiscite (that was predicted to fail but was then resoundingly supported; and joyously so) .

However, the increasing meaness, apathy and stone-heartedness that Australians of settler heritage have shown towards #Australias1StNationPeople demonstrate that Australia is a deeply divided and by+large racist country.

Either that or the #Indigenouspeople who make up 3% of this nation are so invisible, so misrepresented historically and so misunderstood, that the other 97% just DO NOT CARE what happens to them bc they're not even on their radar..

Either way it's heartbreakingly sad.
How the hell are #aboriginal communities supposed to feel if #Notovoice succeeds and they know that over half of #Australia has just written them off as unworthy of a #voice

How are they supposed to be "well" with that ?

@drrimmer I desperately hope so.
The Australian gay marriage plebiscite was touted as a loser beforehand, then was overwhelmingly in favour. Joy !!! All bc a huge majority of Aussies KNEW it was the right and just thing to do.

I have been hoping for a similar scenario for #Voice . However, the increasing meaness, apathy and stone-heartedness that Australians with settler heritage have shown towards #Australias1StNationPeople demonstrate that Australia is a deeply divided and by+large racist country.

Because I like to think that I am not a complete arsehat, or ar least not all the time, I have just voted #YesToTheVoice In the hope that it will succeeed but with the fear that it will fail and that I will not live to get a second chance.

This appalling situation should encourage soft yes’s to vote #YesToTheVoice for humanitarian reasons and soft no’s to vote Yes to reduce the cost of youth detention. #Yes23

I cant even begin to think how traumatising it must be for #FirstNations people in #Australia to listen to the verbal garbage coming from #VoteNo and realise the #settlers are STILL making decisions about them and their lives, in the most stone-hearted, cruel ways.

If #VoteYES23Australia doesn't win, AS IT SHOULD, Indigenous Australians will know they are being infantilised, excluded, marginalised, denied a #voice ongoing, over and over again by ppl who don't give a shit about their lands, communities, cultures and history.

Ill be heartbroken.
If #YEStoVOICE loses, we all lose.

@manpageman @jmcleod An advisory committee suggested it? Wow ... what other areas of public policy could benefit from one of those? #thevoice #yestothevoice

Legislation of the Voice is beginning to look like the lesser of two evils. If people could see how it operates for a period of say two years before the referendum is reintroduced, surely the lies of the no campaign would be laid bare. Not that it would change the mind of racists and bigots, but you’d like to think reasonable people who have been swayed by Dutton and Murdoch’s lies would swing back. #SomethingMustBeDone #YesToTheVoice

For those people who assure us ‘I’m not a racist’ but Spud makes some compelling points, please try this experiment on #SorryDay

1. Find a couple of first home buyers who have repeatedly failed to secure the purchase of a home - they might even be your family or friends.

Say ‘Sorry’ for their situation and ask if there’s anything the government could do to make it better. Note carefully whether the foundations of your own home shake as a result.

2. Find a family who has recently lost their rental home and is now homeless because they can’t afford the latest rent hike or maybe they’ve had work hours arbitrarily cut.

Say ‘Sorry’ that they are not to blame for the situation they are in and ask what would make things better for them in this period of crisis. See whether your roof leaks in response to your humanity.

3. Find a victim of sexual assault whose case failed because the defence counsel of the accused individual or organisation found a legal loophole to indemnify the (allegedly) guity party.

Say ‘Sorry’ and ask whether the process could have been handled better. Hope that in future we might become a fairer and less brutal society. Realise you could just have helped someone you love.

4. Read the #UluruStatementFromTheHeart and listen to the #YesToTheVoice case.

@abcthedrum Warren Mundine shows himself to be loud mouthed, thin skinned and manipulative. I hate to think that remote communities may be influenced by him. #YesToTheVoice

@sjbone The thing that brought that home to me was when #Dutton said on ABC that he'd be quite happy to sit at a table with #Albanese and talk things through about #Voice

No
It's not for YOU to decide Spuddo.. that's the entire point.

White men like you have had enough time over 2 centuries to give a voice to 1st Nations and you've failed.
It's their turn now.
