But I guess I get it.
First, #Zetra we’re probably offered recording time in a higher end studio then they may have been used to. Of course they would take the opportunity to exploit the equipment to make their best effort sound great.
Second, if #Zetra were going to reach a wider audience, they were going to need to clean up their sound for some radio-ready track.
As Joni Mitchell sang, “well something’s lost, but something’s gained”
#Zetra’s singles and EP content features distant, airy vocals, lots of guitar, sometimes with some fuzz reminiscent of shoegaze, and moody, sometimes soaringsynth that aggregates into some really somber near blackgaze.
Then September 2024 rolls around and they release their eponymous debut album. It’s good, but initially I was put off by how polished and produced it was. Clear vocals, loss of fuzz, tight production. A jarring difference from what I listening to from #Zetra the past year.
I’m going to write up this thing on a banded called #Zetra right now.
#Zetra is a band whose intersection of interest is “I love black metal and corpse paint, but I also love The Cure, especially “Disintegration,” “Plain Song” in particular.
#Zetra has been releasing singles and EPs since 2020. I have a playlist of the songs in their chronological release order I’ve been listening to for about a year.
