Nach über einem halben Jahr seit dem letzten großen Update ( #ZorinOS 17.2) hat das Team hinter Zorin OS nun Version 17.3 veröffentlicht. Das auf Ubuntu 22.04 LTS basierende Betriebssystem setzt weiterhin auf den Linux-Kernel 6.8 und bringt zahlreiche Verbesserungen mit sich.

Das ist eine spannende Frage und vor ein paar Monaten konnte ich mir die Frage selber nicht beantworten.

Linux

Nach ein paar Wochen habe ich mich dazu entschieden auf meinem Spiele Windows PC komplett auf Linux Zorin OS 17 Core zu wechseln. Ich habe es nicht bereut und über Steam und der Wine Umgebung kann ich meine meisten Spiele zocken. Zorin OS 17 Core ist auch von seiner Aufmachung sehr ähnlich wie Windows und erleichtert Umsteigern die Eingewöhnung.

Einen anderen Vorteil den ich für mich sehe ich bin nicht mehr von Microsoft abhängig ob neue Windows Versionen auf meiner Hardware laufen. Da habe ich ein paar Kopfschmerzen weniger 😁.

NAS Synology

Nach Jahren wo sie nur rumstand habe ich sie nun im Einsatz. Meine Dateien, Fotos und meine Terminplanung liegen nun auf der NAS.

Leider ist die Einsteiger NAS mittlerweile zu schwach und viele Dinge lassen sich nach der Aktualisierung der DSM auf die 7 Version nicht mehr nutzen sprich installieren. Mittelfristig wir da eine neue her müssen.

Aber abschließend kann ich feststellen habe ich mich etwas unabhängiger von den großen Firmen wie Google und Microsoft. Bereut habe ich bisher nicht und in meinem täglichen Umgang fühle ich mich auch nicht eingeschränkt.

I've admittedly been having the time of my life with Linux

I stopped using Linux roughly when Windows 8 came out and suddenly all desktop environments were chasing that tablet computing trend (???) instead of treating PCs as, y'know, PCs, but recently got back in with a spare Thinkpad T480 I bought off eBay for cheap.

I have to say, Zorin OS is amazing and incredible. Would recommend.

(4/5) #ZorinOS is my final option. It's been my favorite #distro for a while now, and is probably 90% of what I want.

But I want to make some customizations to the start menu search, and the trackpad gestures that go beyond the provided settings. From what I hear, it's just a bunch of custom Gnome extensions, but adding my own extensions on top could lead to really tricky compatibility issues.

Also, even #ZorinOS17 is using an old version of the kernel and and old version of Gnome.
