Für Vereine und Organisationen gibt's mit @delta / #deltaChat & @zulip / #Zulip sowie @RocketChat / #RocketChat passendere Optionen die auch entsprechende Administration und Archivierung erlauben.
Zulip unterstützt asynchrone Themensortierung exzellent.
RocketChat is ne weitere okay Option...
Nach der gleichen Logik würden wir alle immernoch nur #Gopher, #BBS und #IRC nutzen!

I don't get why #Zulip is not used more often in "forums", for support work and for general community building. IMO, it's got modern UI and it's purpose-built to organize communities and help with asynchronous communication that can be searched later. Plus, it's entirely free and open source software and there are both self hosting and paid hosting options.
No other solution I know comes close, especially not the ones that focus on #VoiceChat or try to mimic #Discord, e.g. #Revolt.

@geobabbler nous a fait découvrir #Zulip, et perso je suis complètement fan : ça impose de créer un nouveau sujet pour démarrer une discussion, comme sur un forum/ML/newsgroup, tout en gardant le côté temps réel. Pour du smalltalk c’est nul, mais c’est le job de Discord/Matrix/XMPP ça.
Sinon il y a #Discourse, si on veut une alternative plus « lente ».

I have been thinking about migrating to Zulip, and dropping self-hosting for that. We'd only be self-hosting Matterbridge to bind the proprietary and FOSS chats together.
#Zulip is very FOSS-friendly and would probably sponsor us with free premium hosting. We'd no longer need to care about updating the server and the like.
But it of course would require everybody who used Rocket.Chat to make a new account there.

For folks who have the opportunity to influence organizational decisions:
#Zulip doesn't do this. Every feature is available. Also, you can self-host it for free, because it's open source. And it's much, much nicer than Slack.
They also offer a hosting service, and a subscription service to get notifications out to Apple and Android devices without the bother of distributing your own Zulip clients for those devices.
Is Lemmy "competitive" with Discourse/Zulip in features? I would love to participate in various forums (Haiku OS, for sure; others too, like Pony which is on Zulip), but am loath to create log-ins on each. Is the Discourse way of not going for federation important for discussion forums?

We're using @zulip as our in-house chat system. I've just managed to connect it to LDAP and upgraded it from one major version to the next... It's a bit daunting to upgrade such a central piece of our company's communication and notification infrastructure. If something went wrong it would cause a real headache. But what can I say: it worked flawlessly.
You can see from the detailed documentation and changelogs that they're putting in a lot of effort to make upgrades work smoothly.

Natürlich steht es Menschen frei irgendeinen großen, zentralisierten Anbieter zu nutzen, nur wird dieser am ehesten zur #Enshittification neigen und mit #PII wie #Telefonnummern entsprechende Begierlichkeiten wecken!

It's worse than any #IRC, #Mumble or even the old #TeamSpeak & #Skype for that matter.
It combines the disadvantages of #Forum, #paywalled #documentation, #chat and #voicechat with 0 redeeming qualities (unlike #Zulip & Mumble & #XMPP+#OMEMO) it's just an #InformationBlackhole!
I'm shure fecking #dread has better moderation and I'd rather use #MicrosoftTeams + #Slack cuz those at least have proper #moderation tools.
Case in point: I'd rather #SelfHost all my comms infrastructure than to ever use something like Discord or any other #GDPR-violating SaaS that is just enshittification.
I'd rather recommend people to instead choose a tool that does everything but horrible to go with multiple smaller & good tools

Zulip self-hosted server shows broken looking website despite no errors during installation. Looking for clues and help.
Discord's latest update just put up a floating ad covering part of the UI. You have to watch a video ad, or hover over it long enough for a initially invisible dismiss button to show up. I've been wanting to switch Pallets over to https://zulip.com, this seems like a good reason to. #Discord #Zulip
