This is an abstract black and white photo in landscape format of the side of the RMS Queen Mary with two small hatches, two small portholes and a multitude of rivets. Long Beach, California (2015).
The entire image is filled with the ink black steel hull of the side of a ship. To the left and right of centre are the two small rectangular hatches set into the side of this large passenger ship. Each hatch is about 1.8m high by a little more than a metre wide. About three quarters of the way up, in each hatch, is a small porthole offset slightly from centre. All around the image are hundreds of large round head rivets, many in neat rows and lines, others randomly located and spaced. The hull, hatches and rivets belong to the RMS Queen Mary, Launched in Glasgow, Scotland In 1934 and has been moored in Long Beach, California since 1967 as a hotel, museum and film location.

Water reflections produce an abstract image in black, blue, yellow and red.

DEMOLITION of a large building (an entire block) that was a hundred years old. I transformed some of these photographs into TRIPTYCHS because a single image could not capture the epic nature of this scene of sadness. A single photograph could not convey the theatrical magnitude of this destruction.
