@amgine 2/ tadpole #handcycles have leg rests separate from the steering system, so the steering is a lot tighter because it isn’t obstructed by the leg rests on either side of the drive wheel. I think the renaissance of #recumbent bikes has brought tadpoles back into #handcycling. The bowhead RX, which is probably one of the most popular rn is a tadpole e-assist handcycle. Theres hp velotechnik’s new “hands-on-cycle” version of their skorpion and the Greenspeed hand magnum. #adaptivecycling
@amgine I love this question!! I have it too! Put simply I think that tadpole hand cycles require a bit more engineering, and thus are more expensive. The drive & steering are up front and control both wheels instead of just one. Delta handcycles are just a diamond bike frame turned upside down and backwards. Cheaper to make. Tadpoles are Harder to lift and transport in a vehicle when you are a wheelchair user, but have some huge benefits over Deltas. 1/ #adaptivecycling #handcycling #handcycles

@fbaum The first handcycle we saw in Monterey County was in 2010 or 2011, when we met Ed biking on the Monterey Bay Sanctuary Scenic Trail's City of Monterey section.
As we noted in our perennials post (where he's among those featured) https://bikemonterey.org/perennials-biking-monterey-county.html, Ed's career expertise demanded many working hours at the computer. That made those hours with his handcycle a very desirable way to keep life in balance! :)

Good day to remember that you should be chilly the first few minutes of a spring #bicycling ride before your body heat kicks in and warms you up. It was a brisk 4c today, but I'm looking forward to shorts and 22-degrees coming next week in #Toronto.

@hughtaylorscifi@universeodon.com Thats great, really glad you're able to try things out out on the road to find what works for you and adapt. I had similar help from my LBS over one winter, where the guys did some research and found this hydraulic brake splitter, I think used originally on BMX trick bikes, which they adapted to allow me to use two brakes from one lever on a 1x11 drivetrain so I don't have to worry about a front derailleur either. The key thing is we're out there and riding!
