🕶️ An FPS view of this aerial combat simulator in which the player is at the controls of a fighter plane. The game is in windowed mode, the menus of an old KDE version can be seen at the bottom of the screen. On the main part of the screen, the aerial view, with a burning plane that has been visibly hit by the player. At the bottom of the screen is the aircraft console with the main flight parameters (speed, altitude, thrust, flaps, ...) on either side of the aircraft radar (located in the center of the console). To the left of the console, a computer log area showing the number of victories and the damage inflicted on the opposing aircraft. 📚️ A libre and mature single-player / multi-player (up to 10 online) dogfighting simulator for Linux, focusing on WWII combat. Derived from GL-117, its contributions are very important, in particular the support of the multiplayer, the addition of many models (54), of its interface (advanced integration of the communications with Mumble, radar sensitive to the ground, new information), of the control of the flight (elevators, ailerons, rudder,...), of the simulation (sophisticated model of flight integrating the stalls, the instabilities, the performances in situation, the behavior of the engine, the blackout at the time of the catch of G,...), the missions and tutorials. It supports joysticks, gamepads, mouse and runs on modest configurations (Raspberry Pi).

A diagonal downward view of a WWI-themed dogfight, with the German player facing 3 Allied aircraft. Skies above the Great War is a hybrid real-time action and grand strategy game set in a 10,000 km2 persistent world on the Western Front during WW1. On the simulation side, the player is in command of the air force, either on the Allied or German side, and can switch from one cockpit to the other in third-person at any time and join the fight. On the strategy side, he hires manufacturers, has them develop new machines, supplies them to his airfields with pilots and sends them on reconnaissance, patrol or combat missions to support his war strategy.

Gloster F.9/40 prototype. This aircraft was one of the first examples of the Gloster Meteor, the Allies first jet fighter to see squadron service in WW2. The Meteor was successful in the fight against the V-1 'buzz bomb' attacks against Southeastern England in 1944, but never met the German Me262 in combat. It did, however, perform some armed reconnaissance missions over Holland, towrads the end of the conflict. The Bat Staffel, first of Robert J. Hogan's G-8 and his Battle Aces novels, written during the 1930s.

The hero is American aviator and spy G-8. There’s plenty of air combat, some mild science fiction elements and hints of the occult and the supernatural. The bats and their poison bat breath are a nicely sinister touch.

MiG-17F, with afterburner. This preserved example of one of the early WarPac jet fighters had a fairly crude afterburner.
