This week in #genealogy : finished inputting last year’s newspaper data, moved the Mastodon #genchat account to a new instance & updated #AllTheThings connected with that, finished scanning, uploading & tagging the current bag of stuff for my church archive project.

I think WAFRN could actually be a "Facebook-killer". It has a lot of the things that FB buried/discontinued (blog posts (they call them "notes") being the biggest thing for me. The rest of the Fediverse handles a lot of what's missing (PixelFed, Lemmy, Loops, etc.) from most people's social networking rounds.

I think WAFRN does Mastodon better than Mastodon does (the interface is FAR more newbie-friendly on WAFRN, for example) without deliberately cannibalizing what Mastodon set out to do.

WAFRN has the ability to be any user's social networking hub, and it's just getting started.

Now, if I can get my hands on an Android app for it, that would be grand.

Probably like you, I am very EVERYTHING right now. Many thoughts & intense feelings about my country/governance. I'm achingly sad bc a favorite teacher died. I'm astonished & relieved bc I'm caught up on invoicing—1st time in years! Some projects are done or almost, which clears my mind. I have an plan for getting more art out. I think our work at the museum will provide respite, conservation & community, nourishing a better next month, year, decade, century.

Went to bed early last night due to a migraine, then had an early morning when my body decides to wake me up when it’s still asscrack of dawn, so I got shit done. I made baked oatmeal, finished final read through (had 40% left) and formatting of Chaos Theory, made the Hard back Cover, & now I’m gonna sit and edit An Angel Falls while on TT live with my author friends.

@dotstdy it's a shame no major language has added support for relative pointers yet. You have types in c++ and Rust, but nothing that lets the compiler do cool magic afaik.

As for storage to disk, I personally much prefer compile time introspection and magic serialization, as it is usually fast enough, and it solves #AllTheThings.

It’s not the prettiest #plan in the world, but it it’s a plan and I think it gives us a good chance of success on changing out some key components in this #terrible #horrible pile of #technicaldebt they call an administrative web application.

First, manage the version numbers of #allthethings without changing what those things do.

Then, march the versions of the pieces forward in an #orderly fashion, checking for breakage along the way.

Victory when the last piece crosses the line.

Well, given that I am about to perpetrate a #breakingchange I figure I should put some sort of versioning on #allthethings so that we can perform its #rollout with as few surprises as possible. I don’t know what order of #environments we will do (there may be some #nonproduction environments both before and after #production) but at least we will be able to track what knobs we turned and what levers we threw to get there. (Or rescue ourselves!)

If only it weren’t such a giant #chore.
